The Heartbreaking Game
Chapter 1: The Rite of Passage
//Louise <3
Slut, whore, please. Didn't they have anything worse to call me than those? Coincidentally, or maybe not, I had the same initials as the two words they always said preceding my name. Slutty Savannah Whore Waldorf, which almost became Slutty Savannah Hor-wal-dorf.
As usual, the walls of the sorority house, led by yours truly was vandalized with the words. This happened mostly after initiation. The ugly losers who weren't accepted wanted revenge. Well, calling me a slut, won't make them pretty. Would it? Or even good enough to get in.
This sorority was founded by my great-great-grandmother. It had produced supermodels, beauty queens, fashion icons, socialites, and had a very high standards ever since, but the standards just got even higher under my term. I was the 12th president for about 2 years now.
Qualifications:
- Have to be at least 5'7 (typical model height)
- Vital statistics of atleast 36-24-36 (no more, just less)
- Straight A's (we don't adopt dumb bitches)
While many could be qualified based on those standards, a gorgeous face could not easily be find. FYI, I personally chose my members, with a fair enough number of tests, a final initiation, and a rite of passage for those who were able to pass.
We held auditions three weeks after the first day. The tests and final initiation changed every year so that there was no way anyone could prepare for them. But the rite of passage, which was done by both new and old members, remained the same ever since to prove you had the heart to be a real sister of the sorority. But I wouldn't spill that important little detail now.
I told Zoe, my vice president and best friend, to take charge and that I'd be back on Monday. I drove home in my fuchsia Mazda.
The gates automatically opened. I pulled over just to the right side of the fountain in the center of the front lawn.
"Just in time for dinner." Eleanor, mom smiled as I closed the door behind me.
"Hey, mom." I kissed her on the cheek and she set the final plate into place on the table. The smell of steak, and baked potatoes filled the room.
"Those look good. I'm starving." I said.
Grandma appeared in the doorway "Savannah," and gave me a hug. Her hair that used to be blonde now turned platinum, but time seemed to had stolen just her youth not the beauty. The three of us; grandma, mom, and I all had the same features, wavy golden blonde hair, deep blue eyes, and ivory skin.
"How did the initiation go?" Grandma asked.
"Well, we started out with 25 out of the hundred who auditioned. 23 were able to make it through the first test, 20 through the second, 15 through the third, and only 6 through the final initiation."
"Really? What'd you made them do this time?"
I glanced at Mom before she left the room. There was the same expression again as when I told her I had joined the sorority and accepted Grace's, my older cousin, offer to be the next president.
27 years ago, Eleanor refused to be a member. I still didn't get why but she told me that she didn't have the same beliefs as they did. She knew about the rite of passage, and she didn't want to be a part of it. Victoria, my grandmother had considered her as a failure ever since.
She believed in love, and the result? The bastard who was supposed to be my father left us when I was 5.
I loved my mom, don't get me wrong. But falling in love was a stupidity, a mistake she made that I vowed never to commit.
I told Grandma everything, and she was giggling the whole time, remembering her good old days.
MONDAY
I drove back to the university, and headed straight to the sorority house. The walls were cleared from the vandalism and were back to their white and pink colors.
It was 6 in the morning. All the girls, including the new members were out for the morning jog. I got to my room and saw the pile of pink folders stacked neatly on the bedside table.
I tossed my keys on the top of the drawer to the left of the doorway then slumped on the queen-sized mattress.
I opened the first folder, Matt Anderson: dark hair, brown eyes, 5'9, 2 ex-girfriends. Just the same height as mine, no, he looked kinda cute though. Too few exes he would not gonna be a hard one.
If you were wondering what these were for, these were the profiles of guys who would unknowingly participate in the rite of passage.
We had 32 members now, including me, and so 32 lucky guys would be chosen, the luckiest one would be whoever we chose to pair with me, of course.
When everyone got back, I told them to wash up and we held the meeting after breakfast.
We all went down to the basement which didn't look like any regular basement because it had white walls, pink curtains etc. So it looked more like a conference room.
"So, welcome new sissies. You have gone through a lot of tests, and you have proven your worth to become a member of this sorority. You have shown us that you have what it takes to be one of us..."
"The rite of passage is a little tradition done by all members, including me, every year." Giggles filled the room.
"The rules are simple. Get the guy to fall in love with you. Make him say the three magic words, then dump him."
"But of course you have to bring proof that he did or it will not be considered."
"See, there are only a few of us. That's because not many succeeds with this task. Fail, and your name will be removed from anything that has to do with this organization."
Most nodded and the others just gave me a blank stare.
We started pairing up each girl with a chosen guy. Everyone seemed too easy for me so I told Zoe to bring me 5-10 more profiles, and bring only the best to choose from.
"You should have memorized the manifesto by now. The words you will live by as long as you are part of this sorority."
We all recited the manifesto,
"A wise girl,
kisses but doesn't love,
listens but doesn't believe,
leaves before she is left,
and forgets before she is forgotten."
