It took one long, steady breath for Melvin to compose himself, but his arms shook and his heart beat fast and hard in his chest.
Ryou didn't make it sound like forgiveness was a difficult thing. It shouldn't have been; all you gotta do is say, "It's chill, fam," and then be on your merry little way.
But the thing was, it was not chill at all. What Bakura had done to Melvin was downright cruel, and for that he should be punished, right?
"How does he do this...?" Melvin spoke in a quiet voice, leaning back in his car seat. He was parked about a block away from Bakura's apartment. It was already so late; he'd spent the day cooling off and thinking about what Ryou had said. There was no doubt that Ryou was freaking out about him, and he knew that when he got back he was going to get an earful from the poor thing.
Hopefully Ryou was still good at that forgiveness thing.
Everything was still and it seemed like the world was watching Melvin get out of his car and shut the door. All eyes focused on him as he pulled the paper bag of fries closer to his chest, and made his way into Bakura's apartment complex, which was much different from his own. A few of the lights were busted and/or dead, leaving a dim lighting when walking in. There wasn't a lobby, either.
Bakura was on the first floor, which even had its own little window. He didn't want one, but he got one. It was one of the things he often bitched about while he and Melvin had their little flings.
Melvin knocked on the door before even thinking about what he was going to say.
He wasn't down to discuss how things used to be. If that was what was bound to occur, he wanted no part of it. If anything, Melvin was the one who got left behind, Bakura had no reason to be angry with him because none of this was even his fault— everything was completely fine and dandy and if that stupid party had just never happened then everything could've stayed that way and then he and Kura could've been—
The door opened and Melvin almost jumped.
Bakura's hair was disheveled, as if he'd been napping. The bags under his eyes made them seem darker than usual, but his scowl was all the same.
When seeing Melvin, he straightened up a bit. It was clear that it was a shock to see Melvin again, especially since the last time he did he got his ass beat.
"Melvin." He said, not sure of how to phrase it. "This is...definitely a surprise."
The bag of fries suddenly felt heavier in his arms, so he handed them over.
"What's this?"
"A truce," he was curt but he didn't intend it. So he tried to slow it down. "I've...I've been kind of a bitch."
Bakura snickered. "I want to believe what you're saying." He rubbed his tired eyes and looked up. "Did Ryou put you up to this?"
Damn it.
"No." The accusing silence afterward seemed to drag on until Melvin admitted the truth to Bakura's raised brow, so he nodded in defeat.
