Nancy devises a plan to confront the person responsible for the stolen Mascot off campus .

First she sets up a fake argument between herself and the guy she loves Ned Nickerson to get the attention of others .

Bess falls for it offering some type of comfort .

" Oh Nancy , I can't believe it's over between you and Ned not over something so trivial ! " states Bess

Nancy continues her charade .

" He was right , he called me a lousy detective for not finding the culprit who stole a stupid mascot !

I am losing my touch ..that's it I am quitting sleuthing ! " she begins with a few tears ..

Bess is eating this up .

" Nancy Drew , you stop talking like that !

You are a wonderful detective ..

Nancy begins to shed tears again ..

I no longer can be around you ..

Go turn yourself in before I do it myself ! "

she demands .

Bess sneers ..

" Shut up Nancy Drew !
