Next to Jordan sat an unfamiliar boy. No older than me but certainly no more than 3 years younger. He was darker than the two kids in the bathroom, but not to dark to rule out him being a brother. The only thing that stood out to me was his weight. He was still much bigger than your average teen, despite the serious lack of food among people.
"Are you serious he took another one of you?" he said, noticing my presence. Jordan's eyes widened and she lightly hit him in the arm.
Took? What exactly did he mean by took. I gave him a silent reply, shaking my head, and he raised an eyebrow.
"Why are you here then?" he questioned. His tone wasn't kind or concerned, it was rude. As if he thought I didn't belong there or something. I mean, I didn't but that's not his business.
"Why does it matter so much," I asked, matching his tone. He smirked back, shaking his head.
"Wow aren't we snarky. Whatever girly," he sneered "but you don't know what you're getting into."
Making it obvious I didn't need his advice, I used my hands to shoo him away to the door. He turned around one more time once halfway out the door.
"Go home rich girl," he finished, closing the door behind him. The annoyance in Jordan's expression was clear as she sighed and lied back down, looking up at the ceiling.
"Sorry," She shook her head "Dante is sort of a pain, but he's Harry's friend. "
"Can I ask you something?" I started, "What is your relation to Harry, I don't understand how all of this came to be? I mean, where are your parents, or is he like your brother?"
Instead of getting the long explanation I had hoped for she merely smiled and shook her head, as if I to say 'you wish'
"Harry should be getting back really soon, but he might only stop by for a minute. Probably will stay at his girlfriend's again." she groaned. Again the word girlfriend put a bad feeling in my stomach.
Minutes of silence passed. They weren't awkward though, we both just sat in our own little words looking up at the ceiling. I mostly was stuck staring at the ugly little bumps decorating it, but Jordan lay with her eyes closed.
The only thing to break my thoughts was the sound of the doorknob being played with.
"Go into the bathroom," Jordan whispered to me. I didn't really understand why I should have to go hiding in a bathroom, but she didn't seem to be in any mood to explain.
The two young children's eyes widened when I stepped in. At first, they seemed almost scared of me, until they both smiled at me. The boy dragged me over near the tub and sat down. I followed his actions and was handed two small stuffed animals. No words were spoken between either of the kids, nor to me. They just sat playing quietly together. That is, until a loud crash echoed through the room. I put my finger to my mouth to quiet the kids, in case they now decided to talk.
I opened the door just wide enough to see what had happened. I wasn't surprised to see Harry, but I was surprised to see him running wildly around the room opening every door in sight. Jordan was in the corner leaning against the heater watching him with a face on anger and shock.
"Where is it!" Harry yelled, flipping over a mattress, "Who was in this house! This isn't right it's got to be in here!"
"For god sake Harry, calm down would you! Just sit down and think about where all you might have put it," she offered to him. He ran his fingers through his hair and buried his hands in his face.
This obviously was not a very good time to have our first real meet up. I slid out of from behind the door.
"I think I'm just going to go," I whispered to Jordan. Harry's head immediately shot up. His expression changed to one of pure confusion.
"What in the world are you doing here?" he asked, with a small smile forming on his face.
"You invited me over, you know? If now isn't a good time though maybe you can just come over to my house whenever you're feeling alright, you know where it is." I replied
"No. Stay, I just wasn't really expecting you to come. I just sort of figured you'd stay at home eating all your new-found food. Props though for coming all the way over here," He laughed. "Let's go somewhere else though. It's no fun here."
Smiling at the idea of running off into adventure, he sprang up and opened the door gesturing for me to go outside.
"You're just going to leave her here alone? Maybe Jordan could come with," I suggested.
"She'll be fine," he shook his head "not like it would be any more fun with me here." He insisted.
Once outside I looked back at Jordan and shrugged, hoping she wouldn't be upset. She shrugged back and smiled, accepting the apology.
"Come on let's go to the back of the motel, I have to show you something!" He pulled at me. The back of a old motel didn't sound like a very fun or safe place. I began to regret coming out here, I didn't know who or what Harry was. The back of the motel could be where he hides bodies, but I was too late for using common sense now.
The motel was long and ugly, with white paint chips falling off in multiple places. A couple shattered windows made the place look tough, but the mass amount of birds sitting on the roof made it look almost set up to be scary.
The back was, of course, no better than the front. The weeds were tall and grass completely uncut. The view on the torn down gas station didn't make it much more appealing either.
"Ok Harry, why in the world did we come back here?" I said with a laugh. He gave no response, nor even an acknowledgement I had said anything.
"Uh hello are y-" I was cut off by two hands suddenly grasping my upper arms; Harry's hands. He pushed me up against the wall and clenched his jaw tightly, staring into my eyes.
"Now it's time to stop acting all innocent. I know what you did, Ava"
