I heard a growl from Aurora as she had to stop on command of the chief. She really wanted to burn me alive. I hissed at her after getting death glares from her side. That moment I felt very afraid. The night was slowly lighted with the rising sun and it was a pure exhilirating view, how first a streak of stark white rises from the dark burrows of the mysterious ocean and gradually starts spreading its light. The transition of purple to red to yellow fills me with little joy because I was trapped amongst unknown blood thirsty people in an isolated island. I craved for home and that is something I was not sure about because I might not even survive this episode but for now something has stopped them from killing me. Not sure for how long.
There was a great commotion among the natives. The chief gestured something with his hand and the whole crowd fell into utter silence immediately.
next thing I know, I was ushered into a tent and was given food. yes food. Not exactly some tempting food but yeah, food. I figured that 'savana' thing meant a great deal to these people because they were interrogating Eva at the chief's cabin. I wasn't thinking anymore because slumber was cathcing upto me and I fell into a deep sleep.
I woke up to the sound of rummaging. My whole body hurt and some of my wounds had opened up and blackened. I was aurora beside me, finding something in a sack. She looked at me with disgust in her eyes and left without taking anything with her. maybe she couldn't find what she was looking for.
Five minutes later I heard footsteps outside my tent. An old man entered, later two more men entered. The old man nodded to the two men and they started to pick me.
I started fighting back, screaming and hissing at them.
"let me go you loons," I said. "I'm not gonna hurt you, your wounds are bad and I have to look them or else they'll get infected," the old man said.
I stoped moving around and let them do what they wanted. I was taken to place about hundred yards away from my tent. It looked sort of like an ancient temple. It was a cave like structure and had strange art carved onto large stone pillars. Once they took me inside, I was laid down on a stone bed. It was cold. The old man started examining my body, he treated my wounds and often gave me assuring nods.
.
.
My treatment was over and I felt lot better. The old man, he mentioned his name to be thori, had stichted my wounds. My mouth was bitter from all the liquid medicine he made me eat. He wasn't as bad as the others.
I met Aurora. It looked she was waiting for me to come out. "The chief wants to talk to you,"she told me. I nodded and followed her. Once we reached the chief's place, she stoped and ushered me to go inside.
"Hello outsider, I am very sorry for what I did to you back then", his voice all cheery.
he paused waiting to get a response from me. I didn't say anything.
"I am tale, the chief of this village," He said with more prowess than before.
I yet didn't say anything.
"I see, you are a hard shell to break, Aurora!!" he ordered her presence.
"Take him to Eva" he said.
.
.
I was taken to Eva's cabin. I realised that she didn't live in the village but at the other side of the woods. I'm not sure why she had bulit her home so far from the village. Aurora had left.
I saw tear marks on Eva's face. She was crying. I embraced her and felt a motherly warmth. She saved me again, I owe her a big time.
"I couldn't let you get killed", trying hard to get her words, "You look a lot like him," she said sniffing back her tears. She started sobbing. I didn't ask her anything about whoever she was talking about. I comforted her. Little Angelo came and hugged my legs and started wailing. I felt sad. Although I haven't spent much time with them yet they felt like family.
After our little escapade with our hugs, Eva took me inside her cabin and served me food. After that she went out. I spent the day playing with sweet Angelo.
Suddenly I remembered that I still had to find Vincent and those pennyworts and also inform my mom that I wasn't dead or in prison.
Later in the day when Eva returned I told her about my situation but she said that 'tale'(chief) wouldn't want me to leave just yet. "He's curious about you ever since I mentioned your connecton with savana" she said without blinking.
Well I was curious too because I didn't even know who this savana was, as I had blacked out in the sea and I don't remember even a bit.
"Eva, Who is this savana anyways?", I asked.
"savanas are the spirit of this island and they are in the form of dolphins", she explained.
"Oh, I do remember meeting a dolphin on the way to a place until we got caught up in a current and things got pretty downhill after that." I told her.
I saw that Eva was thinking something after I had told her about my brief meeting with a dolphin. So I didn't pry her further for anymore information about what those dolphins were.
"eva!" I heard a noise outside.
Eva got up and opened up, there I saw a person holding a spear. He was about my age and seemed like a great warrior. He introduced himself as nambi. He asked me to come along with him. Apparently there was some sort of festival in the village and I was invited! how ironic that is, one moment they were trying to kill me. I accepted his invitation and started following him until I noticed that Eva wasn't coming. I asked her to come with me.
But she looked at nambi for a minute and denied, but she let me take Angelo with me. I wonder why she wasn't coming to the festival. She also lives far away from the village. I made a note in my mind to ask her about her ordeals after I get home. Home? strange but I really felt home.
And so I carried Angelo on my back and head towards the village with Nambi.
