//in a taxi on her way to her parents' house//

He was the beginning,
He was all I knew,
But he's gone now,
And I'm free,
Finally...

I can't tell you how I escaped right now, it's too painful. I can't go back, I just can't, it was pure hell. He was hell. My life was a living hell. Now I have to go back to school, a place I haven't been to in 8 years. Of course, I'll be behind but I made a choice to get my GED and I want an education no matter how long it takes, and it'll probably be a while.

I start on Monday, but thankfully the school year just started. I was on the news a couple days ago I wonder if anyone will recognize me. Hopefully, they won't. Wait what do I wear? Well I better go shopping, but I don't have any money, this is a vicious cycle. I hope my parents remember me...

Oh God, I'm here. I told the man to wait a few minutes while I ran inside to grab some money. I jogged up the steps and knocked gently.

*knock knock*

"I GOT IT!" A slightly faint voice said from the other side of the door. As the door opened it reveal my older brother, Nick. His jaw dropped as did mine.

"Thea? MOM COME QUICK!" Nick hollered out.

"Nickolas Fabian Grabès, I swear I will hurt you if this is another one of your pr-oh..." she ranted but stopped as she noticed I was here.

"HARRISON!! ANGELICA!! GET DOWN HERE NOW!!"

I winced as she screamed for my dad and somebody named Angelica to come to the door. I mean as far as I was concerned I didn't deserve to live but they we making it seem like I was the Queen of England or something.

Just as soon as she yelled 2 people showed up. One of them being my dad. Now my boy Nicky here is a major momma's boy and I was my daddy's girl. I remember one of the last days I spent with my family.

~flashback~

A warm summer day at the beach.
A shovel, a pail, and 2 determined children were trying to build a sand castle, but failing miserably. They couldn't get the right sand to water ratio and the sand kept either sticking to the pail or crumble back to a shapeless form. Eventually, the dad decided to help the clueless children.

Now don't get me wrong he was a good dad he just believed in letting people finding things out for themselves and if they needed help ask for it. And boy, where these kids asking for it.

The mom, sun-tanning, looked and smiled, happy to see her husband playing with their children.

The little boy ran into the ocean beckoning for the others to follow. He splashed around as the waves roughly hit his ankles. As soon as the little girl stepped foot in the water a huge grin was placed on her small face. She splashed her older brother and her dad.

She ran further into the water until her toes couldn't quite reach the soft sand. The mom screamed for them to get out of the water. The dad grabbed the little boy and carried him to safety when he turned around he was shocked, to say the least. Even though it was hot out a shiver ran down his back.

Suddenly the little girl screamed. Blood stained the water red and a fin circled her slowly. She wasn't crying but somehow she knew exactly what to do. She calmly took a deep breath and went underwater.

The news team that showed up after was bewildered to hear that the little girl had stroked the shark and thought hard for it to go away, it did.
The newspaper called it a miracle. They titled the article the Shark Whisperer.

The little girl was rushed to the hospital but was released soon afterward, because the shark hadn't bit her even though she was covered in blood. It was the sharks' blood, he had scraped himself when circling the girl and everyone just assumed it was her blood. The family went home after that and they all slept like rocks.

~end of flashback~

"Thea? Are you ok?" a voice slightly dulled said.

"Hmm? Oh yes sorry, I uh just was thinking about that day with the shark," I replied.

"Shark? Mom who's this?" Angelica asked.

"Angie, this is Thea, your long lost sister. Thea, this is Angelica, your little sister," Mom said, answering one of her questions.

"And the shark thing is kinda a long story," she continued.

"But Thea I want to hear where you were all this time, and why you never called or contacted us," Nicky interrupted.

"Well first can I borrow $20 because I took a cab and he's been waiting outside all this time," I asked, laughing nervously.

Boy, they have no idea what I've been through, I thought to myself.
