Chapter 6 – Problems.

Wednesday 24th October

It was my birthday. He had told me the day before that he had a surprise planned for me.  Was looking forward to it. The first birthday I had with him was perfect. He had given me a glass rose that he had made. It was beautiful and delicate, and engraved on its stem was written ‘To my love, Ariel. Happy birthday.’. I had been so happy that week. It was one of the few weeks that went by perfectly, without any anger or fights. The next day on his birthday, I gave Chris a surprise too. I had also been making something for him, since I moved in. I had taken over the spare room and turned it into his present. I had drawn and painted the place of the waterfall in Calmere on all the walls. And in the middle I placed a table with a light on it. The light’s protective cover was a mosaic of different coloured glass, in the shape of a heart. When the cover was place over the light, it made a show of colours all over the room. I had also put in beanie cushions to sit on; I thought it could be a sort of place where Chris could cool down. He had loved his present too. The room and everything in it was meant so much to both of us, because it truly represented our love.  I had put so much effort into it, but it was worth it. To see him smile and be happy at the sight of it, it was all worth that. And this birthday was going to be even better! Or so I thought.

It started off perfectly, with the sun seeping in through Chris’ curtain and onto my face. He was already awake and in the kitchen. I got ready and went to see him. I used to cook for Christopher now and then, because his cooking wasn’t exactly, the best. But that day was one of the days he attempted to cook. I walked into the kitchen to see Christopher at the table with a big chocolate cake in front of him. The kitchen was trashed, but we didn’t look at that. We ate the cake happily and talked and laughed about what he had in store for me, throughout the rest of the day. He told me about the horse rides he had planned for me, and how I would only get my present at the end of the day.

We spent the day in the countryside. It was wonderful. A carefree day, where we laughed, rode our horses and lay together, hand in hand, on the green grass. Christopher knew that that was exactly what I wanted; a day away from everything. A day just spent in each other’s arms, as we fell deeper in love than we already were.

We came back at night.  We stopped the cab a few streets before our flat, so that we could walk together through the night streets. We wandered through different streets so that we would have more time together.

“Here.” He had said, giving me his jacket so I wouldn’t be cold.

“Smooth!” I laughed, but took it anyway because it was still extremely cute.

I was staring at Christopher. He was so gorgeous, with his high cheekbones, his light brown hair that flopped in just the right way and his eyes. The eyes I fell for, with their blueness and streaks of green, they mesmerized. Whenever I looked into them, I never got over the way they seemed amaranthine.

I watched as his face turned from relaxed and happy to angry and irritated. I looked up to see what had changed his mood, to see Dean standing at the side of the road. He had just gotten out of his car and spotted us, so stopped to see whether we saw him too. I pretended not to see him and tried to direct Christopher into another street that led us straight to the flat, but it was too late. Before I knew it Chris and Dean were striding towards each other, preparing for a fight.

“Don’t you dare touch her!” Christopher warned Dean. The anger was already in his voice.

“I shouldn’t dare touch her? What about you? Hey, Ariel! Nice black eye!”

    “Don’t talk to her!”

“You can’t stop me. Just remember that I’m the one who was her best friend, and I’m the one that brought her to you. YOU don’t dare tell me what to do or not to do!”
