It all started like any other day in June. You wake up late, go outside in the pool and have "fun". But see fun for me is different then most teenage girls. My name is Alyah and I'm 17. You'd probably look at me and think I'm a girly-girl but don't let the curly blond hair and blue eyes fool you. I'm all nerd. Right now I'm outside reading. Yes that's right. I'm reading but hey, atleast I'm outside. Right? It's really boring since school let out. I have no work to do and I don't have a schedule. I'm in the middle of my book and I hear yelling in the house. This isn't unusual. It's my parents. Not a shock either. Sometimes I wonder why they even got married to begin with because it seems like all they do is fight and argue. Grandma Jannice says mom stays for the money. But you know, old people. I go inside to see what the fuss is about. "Daniel I told you about this! You're wasting all of our money on bars and strippers!" My mom yelled at my dad. "Well Karen if I came home to a lovely family who actually wants me here I wouldn't leave so often!" Me: "Wait a second what is going on?" Mom: "Nothing honey you're dad just thinks we're made of money" Dad: "You know what Karen if I had the money to divorce you I would! But right now we're so in debt we can barely afford milk and bread!" That's when I heard
enough. I ran outside and next door. The house next door is vacant. Nobody's lived there since the "incident". I don't really know what the "incident" is but I heard it was pretty bad. I mean it must've been for nobody to move in for over seven years now. I usually just go inside and upstairs to go read and calm down. So that's exactly what I do. I'm in there reading when suddenly I hear some sort of cars outside. I look down through the window and see moving trucks. I don't know what to do. I don't want to seem like a "regular teenage punk". I make a run for it. I run downstairs out the back door while somehow managing to cut myself on something sharp on the way out. I finally make it back to my house. As I walk in I notice things thrown everywhere.. Great they got into another fight. What is that, they're eleventh one in.. Two days? "Mom, is somebody moving in next door?" Mom: "Oh yeah, some people came over, they seemed pretty old. But they had a teenage boy. Maybe you can-" "Nope don't even. You know how I feel about relationships." Mom: "Honey you can't hold on to Johnathon forever. You have to let him go someday" "Well maybe that someday isn't anytime soon" I say as I run upstairs into my room. Like usual I start reading to get my mind off of things but I can't. I can't seem to focus on my book. Now I'm thinking about Johnathon. Johnathon was my first boyfriend. He was the only guy in middle school who didn't bully me. I thought we had a real thing going. But maybe that was because I was young and dumb - but even still. I loved him. I usually don't talk about Johnathon. I actually try to forget about him but somehow my mom sees right through me and sees that I can't let him go. Maybe because I feel it's my fault. Johnathon was invited to a party in nineth grade. I wasn't much of a party person but he wanted to go. We got to the party and there were so many people there. More then I was use to. Way more- then I was used to. I didn't feel comfortable so I stormed back out of the house where the party was at and started running for the car. The car was parked across the street and I wasn't paying attention to anything all that I had wanted to do was leave. I heard Johnathon yell for me "Wait Alyah! Stop there could be cars" I didn't stop I ran, fast. Then I heard him yell for me again "Alyah! A ca-" that was the last I heard him say. I turn around to see that the love of my life, whom I dated for two and a half years at the time was dead, cold lying on the dark asphalt. And all because I didn't want to go to a party. Ever since the accident with Johnathon I swear my parents have argued. So I feel like it's my fault that they are how they are now. So ever since then all I did was read. Reading is the only thing that helps me keep my mind off of all of the bad stuff that is going on and has happened in my life. But sometimes I read stories and they remind me of Johnathon. And just when the good memories come- the accident pops in my head. I never knew how it happened really or who did it because the person who hit him left as soon as he was hit. "Alyah! Dinner is ready!" Mom yells. Me: "Coming.."
