The Mouse who tied a bell around a Pearl

Mansion Mice

Once upon a time, far far away in a huge mansion there lived a band of brave mice. They were the descendants of the great Kalnesis clan from the forest. After the siege of the black birds they had to abandon their homeland and they had to settle in homes in near vicinity. This particular band of mice consisted of a group of fifteen mice in total and was often accused as 'rats' because of their great sieges on food storage areas.

The word 'rat' was a curse in mouse tongue.

Recently, the owner of the house in which they had settled, had adopted a cat. The cat was a descendant of the mice's arch enemies, the race of the pearl forest cats.

Like their own clan they were forced to flee from their native forest which was set on fire by a dragon which set the forest on fire while in combat with another dragon. The fight had cause a fire storm that burned the forest down.

And, so sadly enough for the mansion mice (that's what they called themselves now) just when they had finally gotten rid of the black birds, pearl cats, earth mongooses and all their enemies, the owner adopted a pearl cat.

After the rumor of the pearl cat spread through all the mice that were part of the band, fear overcame them all and they began to panic. Immediately, a meeting was called and all fifteen mice were summoned, to the oval table. When all fifteen were seated in their respective seats, the meeting began. The leader of the clan, Athkor spoke first with a deep voice.

"My companions, we are gathered here to discuss an imminent threat to our existence. It has come to my notice that the owner of the house that we now reside in has brought back a descendant of one of one of our old enemies the pearl cats." Athkor spoke with a grave tone.

Immediately the respected silence was broken with soft whispers and within a few seconds the whispers stopped and everyone looked at Athkor expecting a way out of this horrible situation.

Then casually Athkor continued "Our clan has fought and survived much more than this. Do you remember the Battle of Roran? Do you remember how much we endured, but still emerged victorious? I say we come up with a plan and rid this menace from our lives. What say you? WHAT SAY YOU?!"

He asked with a defiant roar. And the rest of the council replied with a loud "YES!"

And so Athkor continued "Any ideas, any suggestions?"

Wille, a young and adventurous mouse with confidence said "I say we gather reinforcements and send this menace from back from whence it came."

Athkor banged his hand on the table and said "And where will we get reinforcements from? The rats of Draynor are the closest to us at a distance of two miles, and we never had any support from that wretched species that were once part of us! Let alone consider the fact that rats were forged from our flesh, by the wizard traitor Gondalin."

After Athkor's angry and defiant statement against Wille the reality of what he had said hit them all. And soon there was a long silence. After a minute or two of prolonged liquid silence the youngest of them all, Lark Greensworth spoke out.

He said "I have an idea, but it will rid not the Pearl."

Athkor spoke slowly looking at Lark "You may tell us of this idea, Lark."

And so reluctantly Lark continued "I thought that, what was to happen if we, somehow, were to devise a plan that could somehow alert us before the Pearl came?"

Wille's brother, Zeith spoke "You mean like a bell?"

"Yes!!Like a bell! And whenever the Pearl came close we would hear the jingle of the bell and we would be alerted." said Lark excitedly.
