Pretty From A Distance

You never noticed me,

Until the miles stretched and grew

The days stretched long and lonely,

And that memory stuck to you like glue.

I was wearing red

The sun set gold around me,

And you heard the truth I said,

Saw the love my arms could carry.

Now in dark, solitary hours, you think

And think, and you remember

Moments with me: picking daffies barefoot,

Singing lovesongs in December.

I am a mystery, but a safe one.

More attractive from a distance.

Having read my words

And seen my thoughts,

You think to find me as you've shaped me:

Pretty, passionate, inspiring,

Bent to your whims and desires.

You want my extra,

But not my ordinary.
