ACT 1 SCENE 2
*Dorian and Joshua have returned home. They share a town house with their father, Malcolm Reese. In the depths of a cold and dimly lit basement with wooden panels on the walls and old, shaggy carpet, Dorian sits at a keyboard plugged into the wall. He has a phone is his pocket and headphones in his ears. A girl by the name of Leah is at the other end of the line, trying to apologize.*
Dorian sighs in frustration
"I just don't get it."
Leah (on phone)
"There's nothing to get. I already told you the first time. I'm just not feeling this anymore."
Dorian
"We've been together for three months and seven days. We went out to dinners together. I told you things and showed you a side of myself that I didn't even know was there. All of that and you're 'just not feeling this anymore'?
Leah
"Dorian, I'm trying to make this simple for you. I met you in August. A lot of girls wanted you, including me. We started talking in January and-"
Dorian
"February."
Leah
"What?"
Dorian
"We started dating in February. Two days before Valentine's Day. I bought you a teddy bear and got you one of those fucking school candy gram things."
Leah
"I-"
Dorian
"Forget it."
Leah
"You're not even trying to understand."
Dorian
"What's there to understand? You're breaking up with me for no feasible reason."
*Leah interjects*
"That's because you never let me finish! I didn't LOVE you Dorian. You were an INFATUATION. I wanted you because there was something about you that interested me and I just couldn't help myself. You were ENTERTAINMENT and it took me a long time for me to realize that I didn't love you. I loved the attention you gave me. I loved how you worshipped the ground I walked on and always put me before everything and everyone else in your life. It was honestly one of the best three months of my life and I thank you for that but I didn't LOVE you, Dorian. At least, not how you loved me.
Dorian
"....."
Leah
"I'm just a girl who likes and needs attention. You caught my eye, I lured you in and then I had you. There was no chase after that."
Dorian
"......"
Leah
"I'm not asking you to forgive me, but-"
*Dorian hangs up the phone and slams his head onto the keys, striking very low and sinister notes that echo throughout the house. Dorian slowly and quietly sobs into his arms for six minutes. Dorian and Joshua's father calls down the steps.*
Malcolm (yelling down the steps)
"Dorian come eat dinner."
*Dorian quickly lifts up his head. His eyes are red and slightly agitated, however the expression on his face is blank. Faded lines run down his face from his eyes like war paint. He gets up from the keyboard and makes his way to the kitchen.*
