I woke up to a rustle coming from my mom's room,  rushed footsteps that thumped at a never-ending pace. I slowly got up from my bed and tip-toed towards her room to see her pacing around, biting her nails.

"Mom?"

She turned around and smiled at me, "Baby, what are you doing awake, you should be sleeping!" She wrapped her arms around me and breathed in my sweet watermelon shampoo. I pulled away from her touch,

"Mom, what's wrong, you keep pacing around and biting your nails and we both know that's not a good combination."

Her curly red hair shook as she smiled wearily at me, "Nothing's wrong sweetie, go back to bed."

I nodded, yawning, and walked back to my room to hit the hay.

if only.

If only I hadn't listened to her, maybe she would be alive.

Later that same day, I got a phone call from my mother and I quickly answered.

"Delphie, I'm so sorry. I shouldn't have done this." My mother's voice quivered and my mood dropped

"Where are you, mom!" I cried out, confused.

"I was hurting so bad after James-"  Her voice cracked.

"That I was willing to throw everything away to avenge him, even if that meant losing the chance to watch you grow up."

Tears streamed down my face, "Mom, what are you talking about?"

Then her voice hardened, "I've gone too far...I don't think I can come back from this."

I sobbed, "I don't care, I just want you to come home, mommy!"

"I love you", she whispers right before the call cuts off.

~~~
I rushed out of the house and followed her scent. It took me I spent the whole night searching until dawn broke and I felt a rush of movement leading me towards the forests of Forks and found a clearing. The sight was awful, there was a huge bonfire of burning vampires and leftover dismembered body parts. There were Shape-shifters as well fight off the last of the other vampires.
My head cocked to the side at that, it seemed that the wolves and the group of vampires were working together. I put my thoughts aside as my mother's scent filled my nose.
I rushed west, heading towards a mountain, hoping that I would reach her in time.
I made it to a campsite and heard a struggle. I ran over only to see my mom get her neck torn out and fall to the ground lifeless.
My knees hit the ground and the man that killed her turned towards me, and I hid behind a tree.
I covered my mouth with my hand to silence the wracking sobs as it hit me full force;
My mother was dead.
