Chapter 5

"I can't believe I just did that!" I say jumping into Leo's arms. He hugs me back and congratulates us in making a great first impression.

"Nice job." He says to me. We walk hand in hand back to our apartment.

"So," he says to Craig and I, in the elevator "training starts tomorrow, and continues for five days, a free day, then private training, then the interviews with Caesar." He says. Doesn't sound too bad. "I think I'm excited for training, I mean it's good that we get to work on our skills and things." Leo and Craig nod as we arrive at our apartment. The fine table is filled with any type of roasted meat you can imagine, lamb, pork, groosling, beef- anything. "Yum!" I say rubbing my hands together. I can feel my mouth watering. I must look really greedy. "Can't wait to dig in!" Says Craig.

I run back to my room and strip of my costume and dump it on the bed. I can't help feeling good about the chariot ride, the crowd loved me. I put on a green mid-length sleeved shirt and a black skirt that is about 3 inches higher than my knee. I wipe off the glitter on my shoulder and most of the make up in the sink in the bathroom. As I stare into the mirror I see a girl, 18 little chubby, in a good way, but she's not the same as before, she is braver. More prepared.

I open my door and walk to the dining table, slipping on my slippers in the way.

I sit down at my chair in the middle if Leo and Craig. I grab a ceramic plate with the Capitol seal in the middle, and put on a thick slice of each meat, as well as a big spoonful of minted roast potatoes and roasted carrots. Yum. I pick up my utensils and dig in. I scoff it down, not caring what anybody thinks. I ask Noley if she can ask an avox to top up my drink because avoxes scare me a bit, I mean they have NO tongue. She ushers to one and he comes over. I don't really notice his face until we make eye contact.

It's my dad.

I jump up from my chair and hug him crying. So does he.
