Honorable Hoenn - Part Eleven

"Maxwell! About time you showed up!" A voice shouts from afar as we approach Meteor Falls. A taller man in a black muscle shirt and army green pants runs over. "Everyone is waiting for you! But don't worry, a lot of others haven't shown up either."

"Walrin! Long time no see!" Maxwell grins as he shakes his old friend's hand. "Walrin, I want you to meet Yokai. I met her on my way here-"

"So you must be trying to join Team Hollow!" He grabs my hand and gives it a shake. "Welcome to the team!"

I hesitantly smile and as soon as he releases my hand I instinctively run it due to his strong grip. "Thank you...?"

"He's very outgoing. I didn't think to warn you about him." Maxwell chuckles and leads me inside the cave, leaving Walrin alone at his guard post. "He's the craziest one here, I promise. There's not a lot of people like him here."

"Well that's good, otherwise I would say you're lying when you tell me 'I'll fit in', dork."

"I'm not a dork." He laughs and pulls me along. "Now hurry up. We will probably talk to a bunch of others before we actually get to talk to Everette."

"Oh boy."

"Don't 'oh boy' me!"

"Oh boy."

We stop to laugh and catch our breath. "Damn it, Yokai. You're just trying to stall. At this rate I'll have to carry you in there."

"I doubt you could." I smirk a little. "But do we really have time for you to try?"

"Oh ha ha." Max rolls his eyes and grabs my arm again. "Let's go!"

"Oh boy."

"Maxwell." A bold, booming voice calls from across the cave, causing everyone to go silent. "Glad you finally made it. Who's the girl you brought with?"

I turn around to find myself face to face with a man only a little shorter than me. His black hair hung in his face like three long talons. Between the thick strips of hair his black eyes glare at me, observing me. "I'm Yokai." I smile, unphased by his soulless eyes. "I was hoping to join Team Hollow-"

"No." He cuts me off with his stern tone. "You look weak and pathetic already. Get out."

"But you haven't even seen her pokemon!" Maxwell stands beside me, defending me.

"Yeah!" I shout desperately, hoping I can appear more confident and strong to him. "I have a Murkrow and several Absols! Back home I have-"

"No means no!" Everette yells over me. "Absols are frail and pointless. Their existence is meaningless and I refuse to have any in this crew! Now get out and don't mess with Team Hollow again!"

He's crossed the line. My Absols are strong and proud of it, I can't let this one person talk about them in such a way. "How dare you!" I grab him by his collar and bring him closer. "No one talks about my Absols like that! I'm not going to let you get away with it!" I push him onto the ground and glare down at him with my misty blue eyes. "My Absols are strong and fight with everything they have! They'll never give up in a battle! I've been breeding Absols for over a year and training them for six years now!!"

"You raise and breed those silly things?" He smirks and begins to laugh. "Get out of my sight, you stupid girl! And never return!"

"Yokai..." Maxwell puts a hand on my arm but I pull away from him. "Don't leave yet!"

I glance over at him and sigh before stomping out of the caves. I can hear Everette and Maxwell talking as I storm out. "Let her go, Maxwell. She's not worthy of anyone's attention."

Alone and in a unfamiliar place, I hide myself in a smaller cave below the Team Hollow headquarters where my pokemon do their best to comfort me. "I'll show them... I'll show all of them! Everette sure as hell hasn't seen the last of me!" I smirk and squish Cameron's cheeks between my hands. "Let's stay here and try to listen to everything we can! Once I know what their plans are we can do everything we can to impress them and show them I can be a part of the crew!" Cameron smiles and licks my hand. "We will start tomorrow. We should go out and take a look around while we are away from home. Plus Rowen and Lisa said this is where they'll be living when they left!"
