Riley did leave which effectively ended things between her and Layton as she had predicted. One thing that was unexpected resulted from it too; it ended whatever had been going on between us. As soon as she left she stopped texting me. I'd like to tell you this was a temporary thing, however, three years have passed since our last text was sent. We are still friends on Facebook and I do my best to keep up with her. Time and distance will not change how much I care about her. She has a new boyfriend at her college from what I can gather it's similar to the Layton thing. I've thought about messaging her many times, but it always felt wrong. We are at different points in our life and trying to hold on to the past would only hinder our future. We did end up messaging each other a few times but it never the same and I let it go. She and her new boyfriend got engaged after two years of being together. It was two days after their engagement. She posted a picture of him captioned 'I love you more than anything else in this world.' He had commented 'Act like it.' She replied 'I am, starting now.' He replied 'And you've said this how many times?' I sighed, knowing she deserved better, but knowing I could no longer make it my concern.
