Chasing Kandace

In a small town outside of New York City, Kandace Millard lived on her own and was attending college. She was a very quaint young lady who kept to herself, Fearing confrontation with others. But sadly her life was pretty dull and lifeless. She spent her free time while on break from her local bookstore job, she sits and examines people who walk past the store.

A young woman, around 24-25 I'd say, walked past the large wall of glass I was sitting behind. She wore a slim fitting, red, knee length dress with black pumps. Her face was very pointed and tight, almost like she had no emotion to her. I saw right through her. She was hiding her insecurities and fears behind her nice appearance. Behind her lightly tinted glasses you could see her eyes flickering from person to person as she passed them. Her hands clenched around her purse whenever a male got too close.  As she passed me I realized that we had many things in common. While she put up a wall, making herself look like every other woman here, she forgot to believe what she was trying to portray. I caught myself analyzing my life. As a child I was faced with hard and unfair circumstances. While mother worked, HE watched me. HE would take me to the park, make me lunch, and help me dress after bath time. Being an innocent child I though nothing of it but I realize now that these were important signs that I as well as my mother missed. I shudder at the though of a male being remotely close to me. Anytime, anywhere. As I stood up, ready to clock back in. My eyes glanced over the busy streets once more. Sparks erupted from my stomach when I corresponded with a pair of bright eyes across the way. He stood leaned against a telephone pole smoking a cig before flicking it to the street. Realizing I've been staring for an excessive amount of time, I grin and look away after catching his lopsided grin. My goodness he was flawless.
