Chapter 4
Trying to keep a positive attitude while your father is trying to woo you is very difficult. He kept bringing me expensive presents that were sure to make me fall in love with him. Obviously, his attempts were in vain.
Currently, I was being stubborn and refusing to try on the wedding dresses that had been custom made just for me.
Yay.
The gowns were gorgeous, no denying it; the first was a dark blue, almost like the sky at night, and had silver stitching and beads. The second gown was luminescent silver and had shimmering beads sown onto the hem of the skirt. And the last dress was gold with red and gold stitching on the bodice. I wasn’t going to put on any of the gowns simply because wasn’t going to marry my own father, so why bother? In the end though, I was forcibly shoved into each gown and made spin in circles before my father and Rosetta. I ran out of the fitting room as fast as I could once everything was over. Rosetta and I had planning to do.
“So, I will get a horse and supplies ready for you at midnight, and you will meet me and the horse at the south entrance of the castle. Once you’re on the horse, head for the woods. You got it? Good. Cause we got to be careful sweetie. If you or I get caught, we’re both done for.” Rosetta was deadly serious. If my father found out I was planning on running away, he would lock me up for eternity. Literally.
It was three weeks since Rosetta and I had decided to plan my escape. And tonight was the night. I was going to run away to a different kingdom where I would be just a commoner. A normal, care-free commoner, blending in with the hundreds of other commoners. The prospect excited me! Father had never let me out of the castle farther than the palace gardens.
Midnight was approaching and I was feeling nervous as doubts ran through my head. What if we were caught? What would happen to Rosetta? What would happen to me?! Be strong. I thought. Rosetta already is starting our plan. I can’t back out on her now! Be strong. I’m sorry Daddy. I thought, as I shoved the neatly folded wedding dresses into a tiny sack and pulled on my riding boots and fur cloak. It was time.
I tiptoed down the corridor and waited by the door of the south entrance, listening for Rosetta’s code that the coast was clear. I heard the door open and my eyes widened in surprise and fear. Squishing my body against the wall was the closest to hiding I could get. Thankfully, the only person that emerged was a half asleep guard, finished with his shift for the night. Once he stumbled around the corner I breathed a sigh of relief and scrambled out the door, only to smack into Rosetta.
“Did you even check if anyone was behind the door before you bolted through it?! You could have ruined this! Be more careful Domerica!” Rosetta whisper scolded. I gave her a guilty look and ran to the horse she had gotten me.
“You got Scarlett?!” Scarlett was my favorite horse in the stables; she was a dark mahogany color that I believed to be scarlet red when I was about seven. The name just stuck.
“I knew she was your favorite, now go! You don’t have that much time Domerica!” Rosetta was right. Any minute now the new guards would arrive and then I wouldn’t have a chance.
“Bye Rosetta,”
“I love you sweetie. Take care of yourself!” Rosetta was weeping now, holding a handkerchief under her eyes. I dug my heels lightly into Scarlett’s sides to make her turn and trot towards the forest.
Then the alarm sounded.
Hooray! Another chapter! I personally am excited to write the next chapter. Question, did anybody see the Hunger Games? I did. It was amazing! Josh Hutcherson is so cute!
