Immediately my instincts was to call 911 but my phone was out of battery, so instead I screamed," Help! Fire! Help!" at the top of my lungs.

Using my t-shirt as a mask, I made my way to the house, looking for the source of the screams. I used a rock to break a few of the windows in the front and yelled inside,"Hello?! Is anybody in there?!"

Immediately, a voice screamed back.

"Help! I'm in here!"

I bolted towards the front doors and kicked at the handle. After a few kicks, it came lose and the door swung open. It was soon engulfed by the raging fire inside. I ran back to the window.

"Where are you?! How do I get to you?!" I yelled through the window.

"Go down the hall and go to the second door on the right! I'm in there!" The voice yelled. Seconds after, they erupted in a violent cough.

I left without responding. Back in the front door, I looked for any type of path to get to the room and an escape route if we needed one. I ran through as soon as I found one, keeping my eyes on the second door to the right.

Inside flames licked at everything. The walls were scorched and still burning, the rug and living room was completely ablaze and there was no way anything could be retrieved without someone getting severely burned. All around me, orange red and yellow danced.

Finally, I made my way to the second door and grabbed the handle. Yelping, I pulled my hand back and put it between my knees. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep from screaming out. In a nearby linen closet, I saw a small fire extinguisher and ran to grab it. I pounded the door knob off and slammed the door open. My jaw dropped when I recognized the person inside.

Smiling sheepishly, he awkwardly waved from his perch near the window. I didn't even blink. All I did was turn around and stalk out into the hallway. He followed and stopped behind me when he noticed the scene before us. The roof had collapsed and was now on fire, the living room was ashes and the walls looked like thy were going to give way any second. Grabbing his hand, I tried to run through and avoid any burning obstacles.

Coughing violently myself now, my head began to pound and my chest felt like I had been in over. Stumbling through the inferno, I noticed my clothes turned an ashy color and my skin looked streaky.

We finally reached the door and ran out away from the burning house. I could hear sirens in the distance and people were coming out of their houses, silently watching.

"Thanks."

I opened my eyes. It was dark and I didn't remember where I was for a second. Oh wait, the fire. I was at the hospital.

When the ambulances arrived, I was ready to pass out from inhaling the smoke fumes and Grant wasn't exactly breathing. His asthma kicked in and, well, he had an asthma attack. The hospital decided to keep us overnight just in case, so here we were. They even had the decency to let us share a room. I almost started to choke on my oxygen mask when they told me that. As for Grant, he was unconscious when they told me so he got to wake up here. In our shared room.

Lovely.

I turned my head towards Grant's voice. "Welcome," I said and then closed my eyes again. I heard him move and beneath my eyelids I could tell he was standing above me. I sighed and opened my eyes. I was correct.

"I'm serious, Lampel. Thank you." I could see his blue eyes shining in the moonlig- hold up. Did that really just come out of my mouth? Um forget that.

"No offense but you're retarded." I deadpan.

He sighed and sat down on my bed."You know when somebody says no offense, the person on the receiving line gets offended." He chuckled and I sat up and moved my legs from next to his butt.

"You don't get it, do you?" I felt my eyebrows come together slightly.

"Get what?" I asked. He ran a hand through his hair.

"All these things you've done in the past day, they're pretty incredible." He said, his eyes meeting mine. Of course, I looked away for a moment before they flicked back to meet his again.

"I'm just an ordinary person. I'm not anybody special." I tucked my bangs behind my ear.

"You are if you've lived here all your life and I've never noticed you 'till now. That's kinda weird." He blinked at me."Do you believe in fate?" He asked. I shook my head slightly.

"Everything happens for a reason wether we like it or not." I lifted a shoulder then lowered it.

"Meeting you happened for a reason then." Grant whispered. And with that, he stood up and walked over to his bed where he laid down with his back facing me, leaving me at a loss for words.
