Everyone had fallen silent. The chewing of human flesh was the only noise. I felt sick to my stomach. I took deep breaths. Mr.Burris looked more pale than before. I don't blame him. Tori, a senior flute, quickly raced to the trash can to throw up. I looked away and covered my ears. My heart was thumping loudly in my chest. Mr.Benton came back with a large box full of snacks from the vending machine. I wonder if he broke it. Didn't seem to matter if he did. Our world is falling apart now. Bagged chips were passed around quietly. I got a bag of cool ranch Doritos. I debated whether or not I should save this for later. I placed it in my small bag and rubbed my hands together nervously. "Your not eating?" Kailee asked. I shook my head and responded,"I'm saving it for later." She nodded. She looked at her chips and hesitantly gave them to me. "Save these for me please." I nodded and shoved them in my bag. Water was passed out and I saved that as well. Kailee took a sip from hers before handing it to me. I had another bottle of water anyway from earlier so we shared that. It was oddly quiet now. What about the lady outside. What happened to her? As if on cue she stood up. My eyes widened. Her mouth was covered in blood. Her eyes were dull and lifeless. She swayed slightly in the wind. "Alright from here on out stay away from those doors," Mr.Hunt said. She smiled at us. Her teeth were bloody and disgusting. A shiver went down my spine.
It was 9:00 pm. No one had fallen asleep yet. The lady still stood in her place. It was like she was waiting, waiting for her prey to come to her. It made me more nervous to sleep. Jew and Garrett sat down beside us. "How are you guys doing?" Jew whispered. I gave him a look and placed my head on Kailee's shoulder again. Kailee answered for me," we're not doing ok." He nodded slightly. Garrett stared at us then back at the double doors that lead outside. "How much loner do you think she'll stand there?" He asked. I looked at him. "I don't know," I mumbled. "Are you guys saving your drinks and stuff?" Jew asked. "I didn't realize we were playing 20 questions," I smirked. The boys chuckled softly. The sound of a door trying to be opened was heard. Our zombie lady was now tugging on the door handle. Her eyes never left us.
Katherine stood up and walked to the door. "Katherine what are you doing?" Someone hissed. She looked at her friend. "Calm down I was just looking," she replied. "Yeah well your supposed to stay away from the door. Not go towards it," Jacob snapped. Katherine just rolled her eyes and continued towards the door. I sat up. "Jew you still have you baseball bat right?" I asked. He nodded. "Good cause you might want to go get it." Katherine reached the blue double doors. The lady stared at her intently before smiling again. Katherine turned to look at Jacob. "See she's harmless." The zombie busted the small window and grabbed a hold of Katherine. The freshman shrieked and struggled to get away. The ladies teeth pierced through her shoulder before she bit into her own wrist and allowed the blood to seep into Katherine's wound. Her struggling came to a stop and she fell to the floor.
I stood up and made my way towards her slowly. "Senora!" Kailee called. Mr.Burris called,"don't get near her?" "I'm not," I replied. I was being honest. I stood a good few feet away from her. Her chest was heaving up and down. "She's still alive," I announced. Katherine's eyes snapped open and she stared at me. My palms were sweaty now. "Hey Katherine...are you ok?" I asked. She sat up and still stared at me. I took a shaky step back. Her eyes squinted and she stood up. Her eyes seemed darker now. "K-Katherine?" I asked nervously. She released a shriek and I jumped slightly. She snarled at me. I took another step back. She pounced. Her weight slammed me to the ground. My head slammed against the hard ground. She wrapped her hands tightly around my neck. I clawed at her hands. It was no use. Whatever virus was in her now had made her stronger and more determined. My vision was cloudy and I was growing weaker. My neck was relieved from the pressure and there was a loud by dull thud. Katherine groaned. Another thud was heard. One more and there came a loud crack. My vision was still cloudy and I could still barley breath.
"Senora...Senora can you hear me?" Kailee asked. I didn't realize being choked could affect my hearing. Or maybe I hit my head hard on the ground. My eyelids were heavy and they soon closed.
