Cole's P.O.V
Cole. That would be my name. It meant victory of the people. Something I wished I could be part of, and something that I would never be. That was not my real name ,of course, and I would not reveal it until the time was right. If it were up to me, I would never reveal it, but my destiny proved otherwise, and I knew I will have to. Cole. It took me all night to settle on that name, and now, I felt good about it. It was simple, and unquestionable. I looked up at the orange sky. It was morning, and the sun was just started to rise. I heard heavy footsteps behind me. I quickly spun around, using the reflexes that every thief is born with. Atticus looked at me. "What are you doing up so early, boy?"
"It's Cole." I shot back bitterly. "What do you want?"
"Cole. That is a great name for a homeless orphan who lives on the streets, but why Cole?" He did look truly interested in the meaning of my name, and this was exactly what I was trying to avoid. The questions.
"I don't have to answer you." I snapped. That was not true. I would have to answer him, for he is stronger and wealthier than me.
"Alright then. What is your business with being up so early." He said as he came and sat to my right. I shifted my body further to the left.
"I'm a morning person."
"Really?"
"How about you? What's your business here?"
"Nothing. I like you Cole. You seem to have the courage and strength to carry out my plan to the fullest." I glared at him. Was this really how he expected to win me over? With a fake smile, and foolish words? He was dumber than a fly to think that I would fall for that.
"Yes. You like me to carry out your plans, but the moment I get the power you want, you go and behead me. Yes I think I'm beginning to like you too."
He scowled, picking up the sarcasm in my voice. But he forced a smile,
"You are clever too."
"Thank you. And a word of caution, when I do find that power, I won't give you the slightest bit Atticus." My voice was filled with anger. Atticus remained calm, and said, "We are done here." He rose to his feet, but before he walked away he harshly whispered into my ear, "You will obey me. And it is true that I will not offer you any of my power when I have it." He paused. "Make the right choices Cole, or I will be deciding your fate."
That was it. There was no other choice. I leave, tonight.
