*Sara's p.o.v.*

Life here at the institute in New York was never boring, to say the least. I actually really enjoyed it here. Clary and Isabelle are like the sisters I never had, Simon is one the best friends I could have ever asked for, and Maryse and Robert (though strict) care for me like I was their own child. They actually took me in when I discovered my parents were murdered by rogue Shadowhunters that followed Valentine. Ever since that day 8 years ago, I've been here at the institute training and going out on missions with Jace and the gang (eventually including Clary).

It's a pretty sweet life I have here, with one glaring and very sarcastic exception: Alexander Gideon Lightwood. I absolutely could not stand him. He took every opportunity to criticize me during training and if I made a mistake on a mission, he would never let me hear the end of it. Of course I'm going to slip up sometimes, but he seems to think that I have to be perfect all the time...I swear, one of these days I'm going to end up punching him in the face without a second thought. The only reason I hadn't done so already is because the Lightwoods are like family to me, especially Izzy. It wouldn't look too good on me if I hit him in the face.

"Be ready to move out in half an hour," Maryse said. Jace, Clary, Izzy, Alec, and I nodded and made our way out of the room. Alec turned to me and said, "Try not to get in my way this time." As he turned around and walked away, I glared at him. I was about to go over there and give him a piece of my mind, when Izzy and Jace held me back. I grumbled and said, "One of these days, you guys won't be around to hold me back." "I know my brother has a temper and hasn't exactly been the nicest person to you," Izzy said, "but he just really cares about being really good at this job. He means well, despite him sounding like a jackass." "Let me hit him just once, please," I begged. Jace said, "No. It's for your own good that you don't hit him." I groaned and said, "I hate that you're right."

"You just hate the fact that you have feelings for someone you want to throw out a window," Izzy said. I stopped her and said, "Please tell me that you didn't just say that." "What? I didn't say anything that isn't true," she responded. I looked at Jace and said, "Tell her she's insane." Jace smiled and shook his head. "I'm with Izzy on this one. Neither you nor Alec seem to realize it, but there's major chemistry between you two. And before you say anything, he's my parabatai. Of course I'm going to know when he has feelings for someone," Jace said. I rolled my eyes and said, "You're both crazy." I walked away, making sure I had everything I needed for this mission.

"I can't believe you'd do something so reckless and stupid," Alec said, standing like one foot away from me. "So what if it was reckless and stupid? If I hadn't jumped in and ganked those demons for you, you'd be dead by now. I saved your life, like I had a million times before. A little thanks would be nice," I retorted, starting to sound pissed off. "Hey guys, do you maybe want to take a moment to calm down?" Clary asked. Alec and I turned to her and shouted at the same time, "Stay out of this!" Jace, Clary, and Izzy took that as their cue to leave.

Alec and I turned our attention back to each other and resumed our argument. "Is it really so hard for the almighty Alec Lightwood to acknowledge my help every once in awhile? Ever since I came here eight years ago, I have never received a thank you, or any kind words for that matter, from you. You've been such a dick to me ever since we met, and I'm sick of it," I said, absolutely fuming at this point. "If you weren't such a bad Shadowhunter, I wouldn't have to be so hard on you," he retorted.

I finally had enough and snapped. Without further thought, I reached up and slapped him as hard as I could. "Screw you Alec! I'm a damn good Shadowhunter. I'm just as good as you and Jace, and you know it," I said, venom dripping from my tone of voice. I then stormed off to the training room and began working off my aggression.
