"Chasey? Is that you?" I hear Braxton call from the door. He is dressed in a white dress shirt that stuck to his body like it was painted on. His dark grey vest that had a small burgundy pocket square on the left breast, fit him like a glove. His dark dress pants and shoes were spotlessly clean. The young Alpha looked unbelievably attractive. He's not going to be your mate though. My mind suddenly wondered to how James would look tonight. Would he look moderately sexy, like Braxton, or would he look like himself?

James. James. James. I had to drill it into myself that if I acted so in love with him that eventually feelings could develop. I couldn't ask for a better person to mate with. My life is already laid out before me before I even have lived it. I took Braxton's arm as my mother snapped a picture on her cellphone. "Good bye, don't bring her home too early now, you hear?" My mother gushed as she blew me kisses from the doorway. I knew she meant well, but it was still very embarrassing.

The ride in Braxton's four door, four wheel drive, lifted truck was silent and almost awkward. The guy had the personality of a dead fish. His smile that made girls drool over him, his witty humor that caused the school to giggle and flock towards him, it was all a front. He wasn't smart or really that funny. He was a fake. I frowned when I thought this about my future Alpha, hoping that I was wrong. "Hey what's wrong?" Braxton said as he leaned over. He sounded concerned but then he put one hand on my knee, slowly rubbing circles with his thumb. His touch nauseated me.

"Nothing," I replied as I shifted uncomfortably in my seat. "I'm just a little nervous." He catches my drift and moves his hand back to the wheel of the truck. "It's okay to be nervous Chasey," he says as he takes his eyes of the road for a second to look at me. His green eyes have a mischievous glint to them that make me want to question him. But I don't. You never question an Alpha unless you are looking to challenge him. I sighed and shifted in my seat to look out the window. It was a full moon, and despite lore saying werewolves are forced to shift against their will during a full moon, I wondered if there actually was a moon goddess out there.

Long ago, legend says that a beautiful werewolf girl fell in love with the ocean. During the day the ocean would lap at her toes, playing with her in the liquid form it was. But at night he would transform from the foam into a handsome man. They loved each other very much, but they could only see each other at night and it was very dark. The love that this beautiful girl had for the ocean was so great that a bright light illuminated the night from her so that she could see him. The earth took notice of this girl and tried to win her affections with gifts and power, but failed. She only had eyes for the ocean. The jealous earth man took his beating heart out of his chest and replaced it with a stone. He then made a plot to capture the beautiful girl inside his heart. The earth asked the girl to carry his heart, wrapped in silk, and to place it near the ocean but to never let go of it.

As soon as the earth's heart touched the ocean, it swallowed the girl up and trapped her inside it. The earth man came out from the sand and threw his heart into the sky so that the ocean could never be with his one true soulmate. But that night, a bright light came from the sky and the ocean looked up and saw her, his love, floating above him. He knew he would always have her love and where the light touched his waves, it was as if they were dancing again. The werewolf girl, who came to be known as the moon goddess, vowed to make sure that the fates of werewolves were in her hands and that she would dictate the soulmates of each werewolf.

Every werewolf knows the story, but not many believe in it anymore. Long ago there were wolves called oracles who claimed they could speak to the moon goddess but there hasn't been one for centuries. The moon goddess story is just a story to tell to pups, nothing more. I hadn't even realized we had pulled into the pack house until the engine of the truck shut off. Braxton hopped out of his side and walked around the truck to help me from mine. Picking me up bridal style, he gently placed me on the sidewalk. "Thank you," I whispered, my nerves getting the better of me. All I wanted to do was turn around and hide in the forest.

Braxton lead me to the front door which he opened for me, placing a hand on the small of my back almost as if he knew I were going to run. As we walked inside, the light natural air that had been outside became heavy and clouded with tension. We walked into the dining hall and all eyes were on me. I knew what everyone was thinking before I even said it. No, I wasn't the future Luna, this is just a date. "Chase Bailey, I would like you to meet my parents." Braxton boomed which brought me out of my thoughts. I have a small smile as I looked at the couple before me.

"This is my mother, Luna Regina Stone," I bowed my head in respect but she pulled me into a hug before I was standing fully straight. A large smile graced my lips at this, Luna Regina was always very informal and friendly. "And this is my father, Alpha Dalton Stone." The name sent a chill down my spine. I bowed my head and knew when to rise when I heard a gruff noise come from him. He gave me a smile, but the smile never met his eyes. "Let the feast begin," Dalton said as he ushered Braxton and I to sit at the left side of him. Omega wolves came out to serve numerous courses of food. I sat between my current Alpha and my future Alpha.

"So Chase, what are your future plans?" Regina asked me before I could fork in another piece of beef steak. "I actually want to become a pack warrior. I've been training for years to improve my pack status." I exclaimed, chopping down on a bite of mashed potatoes and gravy. Regina gave me a large smile and nodded her head in approval but I got no reaction out of Dalton. We ate in silence for most of the meal after that. I kept searching the room for James but he was nowhere to be seen.

"Let the dancing begin," Dalton said after he had stood up. The bored look on his face let me know he didn't want to be here. "Care to dance?" Braxton asked me with that same glint in his eyes. "Of course Alpha," I replied, letting him take my hand and lead me across the hall into the ballroom. He spun me around as the classical orchestra played. "Are you enjoying yourself?" He asked as we waltzed around the ballroom with other couples joining in around us. "Oh yes, very much so." I lied as Braxton stepped on my foot. I winced but he didn't notice as his two left feet continued to lead us around the room.

"Mind if I cut in?" I heard James say before I saw him. He looked wonderful, clean and polished like a shiny new penny. His blonde hair was combed back instead of its usual messy style. He wore a black button up with dress pants and dress shoes instead of his usual t shirt and jeans. Braxton moved out of the way and spoke about going to see his father, but I couldn't take my eyes off of James long enough to pay attention to him. "You clean up good, Garrison," I said with a wink as he spun me gracefully. "As do you Ms. Bailey," he replied as the song began to end. We clapped for the band and moved back to the outside of the ballroom.

"Let's just get out of here," James whispered in my ear with a wink. My cheeks became a risky color as I slapped him playfully on the arm. "I can't ditch Braxton, who knows what would happen to my family if he finds out I left?" I ask rhetorically as I walk with James to the other side of the room to sit down. I slid my high heels off of my feet and sat down next to James at the white clothed table. He smiled at me a wide grin and I smiled back at him. You love him. You love him. You love him. I took his hand in my own and drew in a shaky breath.

"James," I say with a smile that seems too forced. "You always know just what to say to make me feel better. We have known each other since we were pups. You have always been there for me. I couldn't imagine my life without you." I say as I pull him into a hug. He kisses the top of my head and a sense of happiness envelopes over me. I'm meant to live my life with James by my side. Dalton stands in the middle of the dance floor with Braxton and a silence goes over the crowd. "Good evening everyone, tonight we gather in order to help a leader find his soulmate. Alpha Kaiden Reynolds must have two women from our pack join in the battle to decide who is his true love. Our first wolf to represent us to Alpha Reynolds... Addison Turner!" The blonde bimbo who spilled her soup on me gushed and walked up to stand next to Braxton. "And our second wolf... Chase Bailey.
