We Have To Keep Going

Cassie stopped running gasping for air. As long as she remembered there had never been a time in Cassie's life where she thought her legs would fall off. But that is exactly what she felt right now.

"Come on! We have to keep going or we are going to get caught!" Veronica violently whispered.

"I-can't-keep-running." Cassie said gasping in between each word.

Veronica grabbed Cassie's hand and sprinted dragging Cassie with her. They ran into an old food parlor and dove behind a counter trying to silence their breaths. A high pitched scream pierced the silence and Cassie bit down on her shirt to stop from shaking. Suddenly there were scraping footsteps nearing the food parlor where Veronica and Cassie were hiding. And then the thing was inside the same building as the girls.

Cassie and Veronica silenced their breathing as much as possible and looked at each other with a panicked look in their eyes. Cassie looked around the building looking for an escape route in case it was needed.

Okay there is a window halfway across the room that we can jump through. We would get cut up but at least we would survive, Cassie thought to herself. And suddenly there was a hand gripping her hair and both her and Veronica started screaming. Usually the monster would just wander around for a minute and then go search for other victims. This time it found the girls. Cassie tried to run from the demon's grasp but it's grip on her hair was to hard and it ripped out a chunk of her hair.

Cassie screamed and sprinted to the window diving through it. Then she ran as far away as her legs would let her. Suddenly she realized that Veronica wasn't with her as she stopped in an old run down game area.

"Oh shit." Mumbled Cassie to herself. They had been together for days and Cassie had no idea if she could last without her.

Wait what if she is dead? Cassie thought to herself. Did she even make it out? Cassie say down behind a stack of molding teddy bears shaking. No, she had to of made it out. But what if she didn't? Cassie continued this argument in her head for a while and then decided that once it was sunset she would go and look for her friend.

Cassie then realized that her head was pounding where her hair had been ripped out. She felt the bald spot planning on rubbing some of the pain out and froze. It was dripping wet, but it couldn't be her blood could it? After all it was only hair pulled out. Cassie slowly brought her fingers away to look at them. They were coated with a black sticky slimy substance that could have only been from the monster itself. Cassie gagged and tried to wipe it off using a old teddy bear arm. This day couldn't possibly get worse she thought. And then there was a lightning flash and the ground shook with the impact. Immediately a fire started somewhere in the park and smoke started to congest the park.

Simon kicked a shirt off of his floor in his bedroom. He was so frustrated that he wanted to scream, but he couldn't do anything but wait. Wait for answers that may never come. Wait for his best friend to come home, when he didn't even know if she was alive. Simon was so worried about Cassie that he was ready to go jump in his car and keep driving until he found her. He wouldn't ever stop until she was safe at home wrapped in a ton of blankets drinking tea. But he knew that was irrational. It wasn't that easy to find a missing person and he knew that, but he just wanted to do something. Ever since the night Cassie disappeared Simon has been more and more on edge. For a moment he thinks that he will see something move out of the corner of his eye. Or for a second it looks like his reflection will move on it's own accord...
Of course he was just sleep deprived (or so he thought).

Collapsing on in front of his dresser Simon looked at the picture of Cassie and himself attached to his mirror in his room. For a moment he could have sworn that when he looked back at the mirror his reflection was smiling at him.... He could have sworn.....
