~ Chapter Thirty Seven ~

"What is all this?"

I scowled at the woman, who was sticking electrodes to my temples but she didn't even bat a lash at me. We had been brought into the room with the four chairs facing inwards in a circle formation, forcing us all to face each other.

Five was scowling as the cap that was covered in crossing wires was fitted onto his head and glowered darkly at his Handler, who watched alongside the others through the auditorium windows from above us.

"It helps up watch, and manage, the transition." A woman in a long white lab coat mumbled absent mindlessly, whilst poking her fingers across a keyboard to one of her computers, "It won't bother you."

But it was. It was itchy.

I could feel Two watching me, and I eventually flicked my gaze up only to glare at him. Soon enough, everyone will see what I saw and he'll be knocked off that pedestal he somehow worked his way onto.

My eyes were sharp, something felt off. I noticed the way that the small circle of lab coats circled together, spoke in hushed voices. One of them glanced directly at me before turning her face away, she paled when she noticed I was watching her, and inhaled deeply.

"Six." Three's voice vibrated lowly through the air, not that anyone noticed. They seemed to be locked in a heated discussion, "How tight are those manacles on holding you down?"

His question threw me off but I jerked against the leathery straps hard enough to make them strain but not break. I wondered what kind of material it was; smooth like leather, but a metallic tang wafted off them.

"I'm not going anywhere." I muttered in disdain and it was only then that I noticed Two was frowning, and I couldn't hold back, "What's your problem?"

Two looked surprised that I spoke to him. His blue eyes sparked to life a little but his angular face was drawn, "Something's not right." Was all he said, staring down at his own writs that pulled hard at the manacles but to no avail, "They're nervous. They shouldn't be so anxious."

"Oh, Jesus," Five muttered in disdain and his face paled sickly, "Would you all just shut up."

I could smell the concern wafting off him and it made my nose wrinkle. A thin layer of sweat glistened on his forehead, and he caught me staring, "Don't judge me." Five instantly muttered shuffling his shoulders and exhaling deeply, "I never got to finish my breakfast, okay? I'm sensitive right now."

"They have tranquilizers." Three nodded towards the two-armed men stood at the doors. How had I noticed them before? They were built like brick walls, with guns holstered at their hips and eyes sharp, "Two, what did Veronica tell you?"

Two gritted his teeth but spoke up anyway, "She warned me about a shot we would be getting." Was all he admitted to, and I growled lowly under my breath, jerking against my restraints stronger now, "Nothing else. She was...vague."

"Well, whatever it is, it's not good." I stated with certainty and inhaled deeper, "They're scared, and the armed guards are sweating. They smell nervous but anxious for something, those are strong tranquilizers."

Five started cursing now, words that even I hadn't heard of before but I was sure that they would offend even the best of people. He wriggled his athletic body in his straps but to no avail, but he had caught the attention of our lab friends.

"My name is Doctor Manor," The oldest of the men declared, perhaps in his fifties but in miraculously good health, "There's no need to worry. The procedure is quick but we first need to administer a shot; it is vital that you do not resist the effects."
