Cody's heart pounded in his chest as he crawled frantically across the school cafeteria's floor, the screams and gunshots making his ears ring. Finally, he made it a corner table, ducking under the table cloth and hiding, his knees to his chest. He couldn't think, couldn't breathe. It was so loud. Where was Maxx? Did he get shot? Was he okay? Cody felt tears rush down his cheeks and onto his sweater sleeves. He felt like throwing up.
The table cloth was suddenly lifted, and for a second, Cody thought he was about to be shot and killed. Instead, his eyes met calming and familiar green ones.
"Maxx..." Cody smiled up at the blonde.
