*Sorry for the shorter chapter. That's just how it had to be cut to make sense.

(Saturday Afternoon)

A little while later, I’ve settled into my new temporary living arrangements, feeling surprisingly comfortable. Tyler and I are sitting on the couch with Chica in between taking up most of the space. I stroke her fur as she rests her head in my lap. Ethan has supposedly gone out with Mark to get some props for a video, and Kathryn went back to her’s and Amy’s apartment for something.

“Hey, you two want some pancakes?” Amy shouts from the kitchen, despite it being 4 in the afternoon.

“Sure,” Tyler and I call back simultaneously. Confused, we glance at one another and laugh lightly.

Unknown to us, Mark and Ethan are actually listening from the top of the stairs, nearly dying of silent laughter and exchanging high fives.

The adorable pup looks up at me and licks the air. I laugh and ask her, “What’s that, Chica? Do you want some more lovin’?”

She looks over at Tyler, I follow her gaze, and catch him looking at me. He looks away, then to Chica. Is that a blush? I feel my own cheeks heating up.

“Uh...may I?” He motions to my new couch companion. I nod, not expecting what he does next. In one swift motion, the big man scoops up the pup and turns her over on her back to hold her like a baby. In this position, Chica has the goofiest expression on her face.

“Aw,” I say, laughing at the sight. A big smile grows on Tyler’s face as he looks between me and the pup.

~~~
“Is he...showing off?” Ethan whispers.
“I don't know. He doesn't usually show off.” Mark is behind him, both grown men watching and hiding at the top of the steps like spying children. “He’s making her laugh.”
~~~

Amy walks in with plates of pancakes. Tyler sets Chica back down and we are each handed a plate and a fork.

“Thank you, Amy.” I smile.

“Thanks, Amy,” Tyler says with a small smile.

“No problem. Boys! Pancakes! Stop sitting at the top of the steps like weirdos and come get some,” she calls up the hall.

Tyler and I look at each other confused until we hear footsteps coming down and Mark and Ethan appear with shoulders hung low.

“How the fuck did she know we were up there?” Ethan takes up a plate and starts eating.

“Friggin’ psychic,” Mark mumbles grumpily.

“I know everything,” she smirks and winks at the childish man, who in turn smirks back and blows her a kiss. The two wander into the kitchen to clean up.

“If you're wondering,” Ethan says, drowning his plate in syrup, “Yes, those two are dating.”

Tyler nods to confirm. Silence hovers over the three of us for several minutes as we finish our pancakes. The first few days are going to be odd ones, I know it.
