During lunch, Leigh, Nick and I along with one of Nick's friends, Bren, our next Beta, sat at the lunch table talking about school things.
"So Chey, are you ready to find your mate next week?" asks Leigh.
"I mean, I guess it's not really something I'm all omfg about, besides some people don't find their mate for a long time so I'm not stressed.", I reply.
"But aren't you excited to see what hunk will be your mate?" she asks.
"No", I say slightly annoyed.
"Sure", she says while staring at Nick, seems like she's talking to him through mind link.
She must've said something to spark his interest because not long after Nick tenses up and says,
"Well Leigh and I have some business to take care of see you guys later." And with that their off.
I guess I sorta forgot Bren was their until he cleared his throat and said, "Hey, do you wanna go for a walk?"
"Sure." I reply.
Bren is a whole year older than everyone, so that makes him already 16. He's a hottie with light brown shaggy hair that falls perfectly, really light blue eyes, and being built, he's just perfect.
Seeing as I haven't seen him with anyone, I wasn't all that worried about someone being upset when he asked me to walk.
"So...", he says quietly.
"I'm sorry, what?", I say. I was to busy praying to goddess that he was my mate.
"I said how are you liking school so far?"
"Oh fine I guess, I really don't like it being so early though."
"Don't we all?", he replies.
"Yeah haha.", I say awkwardly.
"Say, are you doing anything tonight?", he says.
Oh. My. Goddess.
"Umm No, why?", I say a little too fast.
"Oh I was just wondering if you wanted to go grab some pizza after school...?"
"Oh yeah, sure!"
"OK, Umm I'll wait for you by the student parking lot?" he says while scratching the back of his neck.
"Yeah, see you there!"
And with that I walk away as cool as I can.
*AFTER SCHOOL*
"Hey!" I say walking up to him.
"Oh hi, Umm I gotta tell you something...", he says.
"Yeah, what is it?", I say with a little laugh, just then I see the school slut, Lindsay, walk up.
"Hey baby.", she says, kissing him.
"Hey cutie.", he says right back, with the most loving look In his eyes.
That's when it hits me, My smile fades and I just stand there a second more before walking away.
Walking to my bus stop I get a text from Leigh saying,
"Meet me at our spot."
I look at my clock and weigh the time before texting back,
"Give me about an hour, I have to make sure Chaniyah and Calvin get home first."
As I get on the bus I think about what has happened today and just sob.

I changed her birthday to the week after Leigh, sorry if that's confusing but I thought the book would be moving too slow if I kept it that way.
