Kinum and Ku. Identical twins. Both with the same silky white hair and ruby red eyes. They had just moved after an 'incident' at their old school. They were different from the rest, always sitting by themselves, avoiding others completely, almost as if they were afraid. And they were. They were afraid that they would be made fun of. No one knew their secret yet, but they would today."Ku, can you tell the class what this color is?" She pointed to the color chart filled with shades of grey. Ku and Kinum stiffened. "U-um..." Ku stuttered. He glanced at Kinum as she shrugged with a worried look on her face. "Light grey...?" Ku mumbled unsurely. The teacher frowned as kids began snickering quietly. "No Ku, stop playing games." She said sternly. Ku bit his lip and looked around at all of the greyish black surroundings.
Kinum glared at the teacher. "Don't bully my brother!" "Then tell him to stop joking!" "We're color blind !!" The teacher stopped arguing with the fuming girl and turned to her twin who was patting her on the back. They both shared stone cold expressions as they held hands and stormed out of the classroom. They were soon sitting side-by-side on the swing set.
"Kinum, you didn't have to get that mad.." Ku murmured to his sister who was still furious with the teacher. "That bitch should know better!" She growled lowly. She then turned to Ku who had tears in his eyes and frowned. "Ku, don't worry about them! They're just bullies because they don't know what its like!" She grinned half-heartedly at him. He managed a small smile back before small tears ran down his cheeks.
Kinum's grin fell as she pulled Ku into a hug. "Ku..." Tears formed in her eyes too. She knew that Ku was always sensitive about color. He wanted the joy others got to look at. He figured that it was the most beautiful sight and that once he saw it, he'd be okay. Though he knew deep down that color wasn't something he would ever see. "Ku..it'll be okay...?" Kinum wanted it to be a statement, yet it sounded more like a question.
"Don't worry, I think about seeing color sometimes too...Ku, even though I try to act tough, I'm not. I want to be normal just like you. But if we dwell on this, we won't be able to move on." Ku nodded against his twins chest before pulling back and rubbing his eyes. He looked up at the sky and saw the familiar light grey. "Kinum, I hope you're right..." he mumbled. She hugged him again.
"Of course I'm right.." She also stared at the light grey sky,"....or at least I hope..." She whispered the last part quietly, yet she could tell he heard. "Color must be beautiful..." Kinum nodded, silently agreeing with Ku. Yes...color.
Lesson~ You may think your life is miserable, but just wait until you've lost the color, it gets a lot worse.
