            “Aria! Come on!”

“What’s up with you? You’ve been so spacey all week!” Amanda called out to me.

I had gone out with two of my friends from high school, Amanda and Jennie. We went down to the pier and hung out there the whole day.

It was something I had been doing all week.

I had not spoken to Harry since he left and neither of us tried to talk to each other. Actually that was a complete and utter lie.

Harry called and texted numerous times but I did not answer.

He even stopped by my house but I either didn’t go to the door or made my parents tell him that I was not home, which my mom did without much protest surprisingly.

I quickly resorted to spending as much time out of the house as I could to feel a little bit less guilty.

I must have really been blanking out because Jennie snapped her fingers in front of my face.

            “You ok goofball?”

Jennie was quite a character. She was so open and carefree to everyone. And she was maybe just a little bit too trusting sometimes.

            I nodded quickly.

“Yeah. I’m good. Sorry about that,” I replied, pushing my hair behind my ear.

Amanda and Jennie turned to face me properly. Amanda put her hand on her hip and gave me a look of disbelief.

“You’re not fooling us. You’ve never wanted to hang out so much this summer. All of a sudden we’re going all over the town. What’s going on Aria?”

Jennie nodded her head vigorously in agreement.

            I laughed lightly.

“Don’t be silly. I’m fine. I just wanted to hang out. I felt guilty we had done pretty much nothing the whole time. And the one summer I’m free too,” I replied, walking in front of them, my flip flips tapping on the wooden pier.

Amanda placed a hand on my shoulder and turned me around gently, still giving me a look.

I titled my head and sighed.

“It’s nothing guys. Just some trouble,” I said evasively.

“What kind of trouble?” she continued.

            “Stuff at home…”

            I fidgeted.

It wasn’t a complete lie. Harry was at my house when the troubles started. It sounded far-fetched in my own mind.

I shoved my hands in my shorts and rocked on my feet, wondering if they would buy it. I sincerely doubted it, but maybe they’d leave it alone seeing how uncomfortable I got.

            “Like?” Amanda pushed.

“You know. Fighting and just stuff,” I mumbled. Amanda raised her eyebrow and Jennie watched the interaction between us.

            “With your parents or?”

“Yeah…well no not with my parents exactly…”
