i don't have to
make you love me.
i'll say three words,
not the ones everyone expects.
~~~stay with me.
promise that
you won't lie to me,
you won't tell me
what i expect to hear from just anyone
that you'll see my scars
and think they are beautiful, and you won't
erase them because they're a part of me; you can't
erase who a person is
you can only love, or
choose to walk away.
~~~
promise that
you will find me, among everyone else
who day by day move forward
running towards the false light, never looking back
at the things left behind, or the truths
left undiscovered and forbidden
and you'll take my hand in a strong grip
and pull me out of that
river, that life of flowing illusion
~~~
promise that
you can see me
for who i really am, not who you
want me to be,
promise that
you don't have to compare me to others
you won't try to polish a dull stone
in a sharp, plastic world,
promise that
you will understand me
who i am, what i believe in
without having to
witness a word.
~~~
promise that
i don't have to
make you love me.
i'll say three words,
not the ones everyone expects.
~~~
stay with me.
~~~
{and she will be loved}
