If You Wanna Get Out Alive

Tony stands in front of his work desk in his workshop, tinkering away on a project of his, a new robot. Things had been awful for him lately, and he could feel the weight of his isolation sneaking up on him, ready to pounce on him and send him into a downward spiral.

As if he wasn't already in such a spiral.

Ever since the whole Civil War incident with Zemo, in which Tony had lost just about everything he cared about. Rhodey, his best friend had been crippled because of Vision- a robot in which he'd helped to create- had been distracted because he'd fallen for Wanda, of whose parents had been killed by a bomb that had been manufactured by Stark Industries. Along with this, Cap, whom he'd  trusted, betrayed him the moment that Bucky showed up. Tony hadn't even wanted to hurt Bucky at first, he'd wanted to get Bucky mental help, but Steve flipped out, and run off, turning just about all of the Avengers against him. Then Tony had learned that Steve had lied about Tony's parents deaths, and Steve had broken his arc reactor and left him to die.

What a great guy, right? Yeah, right. To be fair, Tony acknowledged that Bucky had originally been framed by Zemo, but that was just to educate Tony of what Bucky had done to his parents. Every night now, after what had occurred, Tony had nightmares about something that had happened during the incident.

He couldn't even sleep in peace anymore. With a shuddering breath, Tony recalls his most recent nightmare, the moment Steve had shattered Tony's arc reactor. He couldn't breathe, and blood had filled his mouth, slowly suffocating him, as he screamed, a horrible, guttural scream, as Steve and Bucky had limped away. That had been five days ago, the last time he'd slept.

With a weary sigh, Tony sips his coffee, and rubs his eyes tiredly.

He wished Steve had just killed him then, with that crushing blow on his arc reactor. It would've been more merciful than allowing him to drink himself to death and deprive himself of sleep, all the while putting up the facade that he was fine as he cared for Rhodey. He wouldn't kill himself until he'd perfected a system to help Rhodey walk normally...no, the machine had to make him walk better than Rhodey's legs ever did.

It was the least he could do for him.

Steve sighs as he stares out of the enormous glass windows over the forest. It was a breathtaking view, but Steve hardly noticed it.

His mind was occupied with a certain smaller male with chocolate-colored hair, of whom he'd recently hurt.

He didn't expect that Tony would ever forgive him, after all, he'd broken so much more that just Tony's arc reactor when he'd slammed his shield down on it. He'd broken Tony's heart.

He closed his eyes as he recalled Tony's coffee eyes watching him with horror, fear, pain, and betrayal. The last item was the worst to deal with, as he remembered all the times that he and Tony had shared.

Times of a happy, yet serious friendship. Steve had wanted it to be more than a friendship, honestly. He still dreamed of that, but knew that his chances were even slimmer, if he'd had any chances at all of it in the first place.

"Steve."A voice says, deep, and serious.

Steve turns to face T'Challa, who has a look of concern on his face.

"What is it?"Steve asks, in a very soldier-like way.

"You need to see the news."T'Challa responds somberly as he motions for the supersoldier to follow him.

Steve follows the king into a lounge-type room, where all of the different news stations are turned on, all talking about the same thing.
