"hey basil, bet you can't climb that tree."

a lumbering green and brown dragon, basil, swung her head around to stare at the seawing who had spoken - rainstorm.

"oh yeah?" basil turned fully. the skywing who had been hurrying along next to her, aves, huffed as he was knocked aside by her.

"yep, no way you could fit up there." rainstorm smirked and raised her claw to point at a small, pale, spindly tree growing on the mountain side a little ways up. its branches were thin and bare of leaves, the trunk hardly thicker than prism the rainwing's tail.

"that a challenge, rainstorm?" basil reared on her back legs, placing both front claws on the steep rock slope. rainstorm nodded, glancing at prism and cactus, who both watched with somewhat concerned expressions. aves just looked annoyed.

basil snickered and ran her thick tail over the stone, before hooking her claws in the mountain side and hauling herself up. she scrambled at the rock with her hind legs for a few moments, her weight slowing her down, wings twitching at her sides.

after a minute or two of clumsy climbing, she reached the weak tree, placing one of her claws on it. she glanced back at the others, staring up at her with wide eyes, and then heaved herself onto the thin branches.

her body hardly fit on it, back legs almost falling off, but she clung to the elderly wood and extended her wings out.

"told you i could clim—" basil cut herself off with a shriek as the branches whined under her, snapping off the trunk. she barreled down the rocky slope, wings and limbs flailing wildly before she slammed hard onto the stone path which they'd all been walking along.

"basil! are you okay?" prism gasped, her scales flushing shades of green and pale blue. she rushed forward, tail curling tightly, nosing along basil's neck to turn her head on its side.

basil stared up at prism with heavy-lidded eyes, her head still spinning, "...yeah, i'm fine. just dizzy."

"okay, but you gotta admit," rainstorm came forward, looking at basil with a grin, "that was pretty epic."

"i mean, yeah, but basil should be a bit more careful." cactus strode forward to stand close by prism's side, looking at basil, "three moons, you'll get your head smashed in some day."

"no, no, i'm a mudwing! we're tough." basil snorted and hauled herself back onto her legs, wobbling ever so slightly.

"a rain-mudwing hybrid, actually." aves scoffed, then grumbled, "not that you can change your scales though."

emerald flared on prism's throat and back, "color changing isn't the only thing making rainwings unique!"

aves just rolled his eyes and turned to stare off into the distance.

"anyway, we ought'a get back moving." rainstorm huffed, glancing at aves for a second before returning her gaze to the group, "we need to get to the kingdom of the sea before the sun sets."

"what, can't wait to jump back in the water?" prism laughed, yellow and pink coloring her scales. rainstorm nodded, "there's a really pretty coral patch i wanna visit, it looks better in the daylight."

   "sure, sure."

the dragons then collected themselves, making sure everyone was gathered, before setting off down the trail again.
