We teach our daughters
that love is sacrificial.
So, they run
Hearts wide open
fists clenched
Into burning human temples
trying to save the souls within.
Waging war against
their own sense of self-preservation
as they try to nurture the boy
out some other woman's son,
and attempt to replace him with
the man they always wanted to love.
And by the end
they come to exist
With battle wounds tattooed
across angelic hearts.
All because
we teach our daughters
