After they got the information they needed they went back to the hut.

In the hut officers was searching for any clues, the noticed a knife missing from the knife set

So they suspected maybe he killed them ,but when one of the police officers went from the back yard and saw small foot prints, he knew that they ran away

he called the other police officer" guys come here there is food prints everybody ran out and started following it .

They brought a trained police dog, and made him sniff a pice of Alex's shirt and started searching in the big wide forest.
