Stand Out

Chapter One

     I sighed as the alarm went off. The first day of school, woo hoo! Senior year could be different, right? I could maybe get a boyfriend..? Ha, I actually just snorted. Okay... outfit time. I skipped to my closet, trying to find an outfit.

     My cousin, Cassidy, had spent the summer with me, and she was a total fashionista. I mean, I'm not complaining, because she taught me how to do makeup and actually choose an outfit. She gave me a bunch of her hand-me-downs, and whenever she went shopping, she would buy me clothes. I would say a good half of these clothes in the closet I had never seen before.

     I found a baby pink dress with long sleeves, and what Cassidy had called a 'cold shoulder'. I grabbed my makeup and my curling wand. Sitting on the floor, right in front of my mirror, I did the makeup Cass had taught me (although it never looked as good as when she did it.) I began to curl my hair after that. I thought I looked pretty good, but what do I know? Time to make the dreaded walk to school.

     I stepped into the school that had been hell for me for the past three years. I knew that my two best friends, Cher and Jennifer (also known as Cher-bear, and Jenno), would be in the same spot they always were. It was a little nook that was by the library. I liked the spot because it wasn't very crowded, and my crush of five years stood right across from it.

     I kinda skipped to our normal seat. I hadn't seen my two best friends all summer! Cher went on a cruise to god-knows where, and Emma spent the summer studying abroad in Paris. I, had went to Saint Louis, which was only an hour away, and I went for like two days. I also hadn't seen Augustus (my crush) the whole summer, so I was a tad excited to see him.

     "LEENA!" I heard an excited scream. My eyes wandered, and I found my two best friends aggressively waving me over. I practically ran to them, and we embraced in a group hug.

     "It's been three entire months since we've seen each other!"Jenno exclaimed.

     "And you are wearing a dress for the first time since eighth grade!" Cher-bear practically yelled.

     "Uh yeah! Cassidy gave me a makeover over the summer." I smiled. "I don't know, I kinda like it! What do you guys think?"

     Cher rolled her eyes. "Like it? Like IT, Lee?! I fucking love it!" Jennifer nodded in agreement. I saw Augustus from across the hallway. He was talking to his best friend Michael. He was so pretty.

     "Is it just me, or has Augustus gotten prettier?" I sighed, turning my attention back to them.

     "Is it just me, or have you become more desperate?" Jenno smirked, as Cher laughed.

     I glared at them. "No! Besides, he is still dating Phoebe." I frowned.

     "One day he'll see that Phoebe is kind of a bitch, and that you are the most beautiful girl here." Cher paused. "Oh, besides me of course!" I playfully hit her arm as the bell sounded. We walked down the hallway, knowing we had the same first hour.

     When we got to the class, the seating chart was on the white board. We all gathered around it. Jenno got to sit with her crush, and Cher got to sit with my crush. I on the other hand, got to sit with our schools renown bad boy. Keegan Shay. Now, I have to admit that Keegan was totally attractive. Which is probably why, like, half the female population was totally in love with him.

    I walked to my assigned seat, noticing that Keegan was not here yet. Jennifer sat in the seat next to me, and we all talked until Keegan glared at Jenno, and she practically ran to her seat. The bell rang. As the teacher introduced herself, I could feel Keegan's eyes on me. I mainly ignored it.
