All Kallie could do was stare in complete shock. There was nothing left of her and town. Nothing.

When you say the word nothing In this situation, you normally mean something such as no survivors, and a ton of rubble on the ground of what used to be a town or a city. In Kallie's case, it looked like there had never been a town. There was a forest surrounding a big patch of field, which was covered in flowers and had a small stream flowing through it to who knows where. It looked like paradise, but Kallie couldn't appreciate the peacefulness because her town was gone, her family was gone, her friends were gone, all she had was a dinky bathtub.

Kallie went to the nearest tree and kicked it. She repeated kicking the tree until her toes hurt. Finally, she slumped to the ground and sobbed. Everything she had ever loved was gone. She clutched the necklace her mother had given her. It was all that Kallie had left of her. All she could say was "why, why, why," over and over again until the sun set and she finally fell asleep.

-------------

The next day Kallie decided to forage for food, since all the sadness was out of her system. She knew life would be hard for the next few years, but she at least had water, food from the animals she had found around, and shelter in the trees that she would later use to build a house.

There was a lot to do, and Kallie had to let her past go if she wanted to survive in this strange experience. So she set to work. But as she was getting water from the stream, a question floated through her mind, a question she ignored in her grief.

Why didn't the bombs leave anything? No rubble, no holes, no radiation, no dead bodies.

--------------

"Ugh. Why?" Kallie whined.

It had been a week since the bombs had come, and Kallies food supply was running low. She knew she had to leave, but she still felt connected to where her old home once sat. As she hunted for rabbits or deer, she pondered over the pros and cons of leaving. After finding no food except some vibrant purple mushrooms, she went back to her makeshift camp to pack up her things and leave.
