                                                        PROLOGUE

For the past 3 years I had to watch my loved ones die.

As the rabidlike zombies ripped and tore them apart.

As my sister died before my eyes in the first year of this apocalypse.

Now, humanity fights for their lives, to prevent cholera and plagues.

This is my story. And how I became a vampire in this goddamned world.

  My name is Mileena.

And I'm going to tell you how I was killed 3 months ago, after the first 3 years of surviving among the apocalypse.

                                                       HUMAN:

"Run!" I screamed.

As soon as the words left my lips, I was already half way down the pathway. Running. Running away from the horde of infected.

I didn't look back. Not until I was in the building.

What I saw nearly made me puke.

Alli, my best friend, was being straddled by a walker. It was beating its fists against her stomach. And clawing its talon like nails down her hips. She arched her back and screamed. But the walker only dug its talons into her stomach. Ripping and tearing.

I screamed as well. She'd been my best friend since junior infants. Now I'd lost her.

I let my eyes tear themselves away from Alli's still body and wander to the rest of my group.

  None of them had survived.

They all lay on the ground. The horde of walkers ripping them apart limb by limb.

Suddenly I heard a growling from behind me.

Immediately, my body went tense. Slowly I turned around to face the walker.

It was a female one. She was nearly bald now. Her clothes now in rags. She was hissing softly. As she neared me, I realised her foot was broken.

That would slow her down while I'm running for my life.

I had no weapon with me. My weapons were left back in the grocery shop when my group and I were scavenging.

I looked around the room I was in.

The walls were blood splattered, and the words 'We're Doomed' was written in black spray paint.

There was furniture turned upside down and papers everywhere.

Pools of conjealed or fresh blood lay on the wooden floorboards.

Desperate, I scanned the room in search of a weapon.

  None.

I ran towards the door and flung it wide open.

Only to discover four walkers waiting outside the door.

I screamed, panic clawing its way through my empty stomach. My chest rose and fell in quick little pants as I hyperventilated. My heart was racing and my ears were ringing.

I backed away from them, only to fall against the walker behind me.

We crashed to the floor at the same time as the other walkers descended upon me.
