They ran to an obelisk on the other side of the piazza.
Michaelle stopped and scanned the obelisk.
“Uh, Michaelle, what the heck?” Sarah demanded.
“Obelisks are symbols of enlightenment. Like... the pyramid on the dollar bill.”
“But that doesn't explain why you kissed our tourguide,” James countered slyly.
“Precisely,” Michaelle blushed.
Then she scanned the surface of the monument up and down. There. She saw it. In print, right there! The symbol of the 4 elements: It was the same mark on the security guard in Zurich.
It ws the symmetrical line on the circle, and the circle was inscribed in the tringle, and the traingle was inscribed in the square.
“The square symbolizes earth. The triangle, fire, because it symbolizes the flame and the three parts of a fire, which is oxygen and two other components but I forgot. The circle is water because water has no beginning and no end, it's just a cycle, right? And the line of symmetry is... it has to be air, because air is a factor to all these elements and balances it out... symmetrically.”
Michaelle explained, although absent minded, and she looked as if she was making it up along the way. But it made sense.
She drew the symbol onto her palm.
Raoule took a picture of it.
“Hey!” James said, “This symbol is the symbol of the Deathly Hallows from Harry Potter!”
Michaelle tilted her head to the right and smiled.
“10 points to Gryffindor. And do you know WHY J.K. Rowling didn't encorporate the square?”
James shook his head. “No. Why?”
“I want you to tell me what the symbols stood for in the Deathly Hallows,” Michaelle coaxed.
She stood smiling, poised, like a minx.
“Well, the triangle stood for the cloak of invisibility, the circle for the resurrection stone, and the stick for the elder wand,” James said.
“And those objects ALL wanteed to cheat death!” Sarah exclaimed.
“Of course you can't cheat death. So J.K. Rowling, probably an Enlightened One herself, didn't encorporate the square because she believed in life after death. The square binding them together means strength and power. It defies death or life after death. Have you ever heard the term 'earth-bound spirits'?”
Michaelle explained rather calmly. And it all made PERFECT sense.
“And in the movie, when Harry meets Dumbledore at the station, there is proof of the afterlife,” Sarah said, stunned.
Suddenly, Michaelle's phone rang.
“Hello?” she listened to the voice on the other line and hung up.
“Who was it?”
Michaelle shook her head.
“I wouldn't worry. It's no one important anyway.”
