My eyes fly open and I'm back in Florida. The sun is shining brightly and the first thing I see are Trevor’s light blue eyes peering at me. I look down and see my red dancing dress still lying on the bed, untouched and unworn.

He laughs, “You fell asleep.”

I sit up startled and rub my eyes.

“What day is it?” I ask.

“Wow, you must have really been out, it’s still the same day, you were only asleep for a few hours.”

His eyebrows are bushed together, obviously worried about me.

I sigh, “Oh, okay.”

He smiles “Do you still want to go dancing?” he asks me.

I look out the doors towards the ocean, the water is calmer than ever and the sun is bright.

“Um, sure.” I say. “I just need to change.”

He relaxes, “Okay.”

He bends down and kisses me softly on the lips before getting up and leaving the room closing the door behind him.

I reach over and look at my phone. My uncle replied to me an hour after he sent the first message.

‘Your mother said she felt fine before you left but she has the flu. Don’t worry I’ll take care of her until you get back. Hope you’re having fun sweet pea.’

I breathe out a sigh of relief. It’s only the flu. Thank god it’s not what I had just imagined.

I grab my dress and stand up.

I can’t help but notice the small jewelry box in the corner, I smile to myself.

Tonight will be one I’ll never forget.
