I run back to the men's toilets, ignoring some comments as I pass by, and subconsciously prod and pull at my dress.
Bursting into the men's toilets I ignore the shouts of surprise from the other men in the room and head straight for Alex, who is currently checking himself out in the mirror and I roll my eyes, not surprised to find him checking himself out.
I situate myself next to him, not saying a word as I quickly wash the plastic cup, making sure it doesn't have any more dust on it from the floor and fill it with cool water from the tap, handing it over to him wordlessly, watching as he gulps it down in seconds.
I lean my back against the counter of the sinks and watch as the other men walk in and out of the cubicles, some giving me odd looks at why I'm here and others giving me lustful gazes, even daring to add a wink once they catch me staring at them plainly.
I hear the crunch of the plastic and turn my head to catch Alex scrunching up the plastic cup in his hands and throwing it over his shoulder, where it lands loudly next to the rubbish bin behind us.
"Where is she?"
There is only one she, he can be referring to tonight. "She's safe with Declan."
I watch as his shoulders instantly relax at my comment. He may be having second thoughts but he still cares for her, like he said. And it's obvious in his words and in his posture. Alex and Sarah originally got together to piss off their parents, who have been neighbours since they were first both born, but ever since some weird pact that the neighbours claim that the other broke, they have been at "War" so to speak and Alex and Sarah, though they hated each other for a while, decided that enough was enough and decided to start dating to make their parents realise how stupid they were over this broken pact. Unfortunately for them, it didn't work and their parents became more enraged than ever with the opposing family. The two stayed together though and even when the years passed and their families still hated the other with such raw passion, the two eventually grew real feelings for one another and fell in love.
Now, this part is where it gets a bit sticky, even for me. On the prom night of year eleven, our last year in high school, it was rumoured that Sarah and Alex had a massive fight and that Alex left Sarah in a rage, and with Alex at the time being Sarah's ride home, she had to walk home, as neither Dec nor I were there for prom night. Rumour has it that night, Sarah never showed up back home. She was found two days later walking the streets of London aimlessly when one of our old classmates was visiting his cousins. Hearing the news of her being missing, he immediately brought her back to his place and brought her home the next day.
I obviously tried to get Sarah to talk to me as soon as I knew she was home but she just wouldn't speak, wouldn't eat and wouldn't move from the spot in the corner of her room. Even Alex couldn't get through to her when he came barging into her room that same day. I still don't know what happened, I didn't push too much for details from her but she never gave me any, but apparently Alex knows all the details, which is why he is so overprotective when it comes to her.
I hate to think of the worse but I can't help but feel like the worse may be what happened to her.
If it was or wasn't, it doesn't matter now, she's fine and healthy and Alex is definitely more wary of new people so I know that even if things do end between the two I know that Alex will still watch over her, he's not the kind of guy to leave a friend when they need protecting, he's proven that to me multiple times in the time I've known him.
"Are you really going to break up with her if you see her tonight?" I ask, voicing the elephant in the room.
He's silent for a long moment and I wonder if he'll end up telling me or not. But he does. "I have no idea anymore."
