^(Picture of Michael above)^Michael's POV
"Ok, can anyone give me the answer to the problem on board," Ms.Williams said gesturing to the math problems written on the white board. Her four eyes peering over her old glasses.
Instinctively, I raised my hand. The equation was a simple factoring of the variables. I knew the answer right away, however that didn't seem to really matter to Ms.Williams.
"Anyone else, besides Michael here," she said hoping for her other students to make an effort. No one made an effort to try and answer it. Suddenly, a voice came from the back.
"The answer's 24."
Ms.Williams, some of the students, and I all looked to the back of the classroom. An angel with dark brown hair and a black leather jacket sat there with her feet resting on top of the desk. She had her arms crossed and was chewing some gum very loudly, but she didn't care. When she noticed all of us staring at her, she glared at us.
"BOO!" she said loudly with annoyance in her voice.
The all students looked away quickly while the teacher continued class. I didn't look away, not until she was also looking at me as well. When our eyes connected, she gave a faint smile and then nodded. I smiled back then returned to my class work.
Diana was an interesting person. Despite what everyone thinks about her, she nice, smart, friendly; you just had to get to know her. I've known her since I was in Kindergarten.
My mind wandered by to the day I met Diana. It was my first day at the new school, after my dad died. It was the middle of winter, snow was everywhere. I was buttoned up in a heavy, white winter jacket, and some of the other kids were picking on me.
*Flashback*
"Hey looks like a big marshmallow!"
"He face is all red, it looks like a potato!"
"It's a tomato. Oh look, I think he's gonna cry like a big baby."
I stood there listening to all of it, I didn't know what to do. There wasn't anywhere to run that they could follow me to. I couldn't fight back, they were stronger than me. All I could do is stand there and try not to cry my eyes out.
"Someone, please, come save me."
Then, like the angel sent by the gods, Diana came up for behind one of the bullies and pushed him down. He landed face first in a pile of snow.
"Stop picking on the new kid, dummies!" she said. She was wearing a black winter sweater, and UGG boots. She had a mean look on her face.
"I'll get you for this Diana," the bully said as he got and ran off with his other friends. He gave me a mean look before running off. Diana watched as they ran away, she was smiling like she was a hero who had just defeated a mighty villain.
I was amazed that this girl would stand up for me, and she didn't even know me.
"Hey," she said standing in front of me, "if those guys give you trouble, just tell me, I'll beat them up."
She smiled widely, showing two of her teeth missing. I smiled back at her. She held out her hand, "my name is Diana."
I took her hand and shook it. "I'm Michael."
*Flashback Ends*
There was a tapping on my shoulder. I snapped out of my thoughts and looked up to see Diana looking down at me.
"School is over nerd, lez go homez."
I smiled at my best friend and began to pack up my things, mentally thinking about how lucky I was for having a friend like her.
Diana's POV
"I can't wait to get home, grandma's cooking lasagna tonight," Michael said with a smile. He was sitting in the passenger seat of my old truck talking his little head off. He's always talkative when its just me and him, but if it anyone else, he barely says a word.
Me? I honestly couldn't care less if he talked or not. He's my best friend, so just being around him was good enough for me. My life hasn't been the best, but lil Micheal was always there. I smiled at the thought of him sometimes. Him and his big nerdy glasses and his nerdy way of talking.
"Hey, why are you smiling?"
I snapped out of my thoughts and realized I was still driving. I concentrate on driving and the road for the rest of the ride. I ignored Mike's question, not really wanting to explain everything to him.
I dropped him off at his house and continued to head to my place. I lived a few blocks away from his home, so the drive didn't take to long.
I know this town, or this world, isn't the best place to live, but honestly I kinda liked it here. I grew up in this town my whole life. I've only been to the outskirts a few times. The only downside is the fact that nothing new ever happened.
I would take those words back later on. Today was Thursday, the day before Valentine's day. My Valentine, is my best friend, Michael. It was a mutual thing sense no one else gave a damn about us, but I'm cool with it. After all, Mike (Michael) is the greatest friend anyone could ask for.
