Have you ever wondered what it felt like to loose everything you hold dear to your heart. Everything that could keep you up and moving around in life. Everything that you thought would always be there when you are in times of doubt. I haven't and I hope I never do. I don't know how I could manage with a life without my parents. Or so I thought. My parents died 3 years ago. I was 15 and in my freshman year of high school when the tragedy happened. I can remember like it was yesterday.
"Danial! Get back here!" I started chasing after him as he ran towards our favorite candy shop in the mall. He had a devious smile on his smug little face.
"Catch me if you can!" He turned and ran off into the store.
I sighed and quite running. We were supposed to meet my parents at the food court and us stopping at a candy store was gonna make us late.
"Danial!" I hissed as I walked over to him. I reached a hand up and slapped the back of his head. "You left me back there and best friends don't leave their other half alone!" A gave him an icy glare.
Dan has been my best friend since 2nd grade. He has always been there for me no matter what. From when I got my first zit all the way to when I got my first period and beyond.
"And besides your gonna make us late to meet up with my parents." I sighed and turned towards the exit. "You better come with me or I'm gonna leave you here."
I walked through the door and turned to the left. A hand reached out and grabbed mine. I ripped my hand from Dan's grasp and elbowed him in he ribs which earned a yelp from him.
"What crawled up your ass today." He started rubbing his rib cage.
"You did."
I walked a few feet and turned to the right. "I'm gonna use the restroom real quick." He nodded and I walked down the hallway toward the ladies room.
A scream escaped my mouth and my bags fell to the floor. I started running and fell to the floor. I reached out and touched my moms face. Her blonde curls spread out around her head. A look of shear panic was frozen on her face. Blood poured out from under her body.
Tears streamed down my face and huge sobs jumped out of my mouth. I sat there between my dead parents as blood soaked the carpet beneath them. Their wallets and my moms purse was gone.
I felt big strong arms lift me into the air and away from my parents bodies. Dan pulled me into a corner as two security guards ran past and called in the murder.
Dans big arms wrapped me up in his chest and he twisted his fingers through my hair. He whispered soothing words into my ear as a tear slipped down his cheek and into my hair.
My body shook violently and I screamed into his chest. Every time I closed my eyes I saw my mom and dads faces of horror. The day started out great and turned into a disaster. How could this happen. Why did this have to happen to me. And why was I the one that found their bodies. This always happened in the movies but it wasn't supposed to happen in real life.
Dans words rung in my ears. "It's gonna be okay."
Present time.
"Valorie!" Sarah slapped a hand across my face and drew me out of my thoughts. "Are you okay? You seem a bit spaced today."
Sarah was my other best friend and she was picking me up from the airport and taking me to my new house with all of my new roommates (Sarah, her boyfriend Jake and then Dan). I had left this town three days after my parents murder and I have been gone for three years. I went up to Ohio to live with my aunt and uncle. As soon as I turned 18 I bought a plane ticket and flew back to California to finish high school with all my friends.
