I never thought the day I died would come, yet here I am, dead. Well, undead. You see, I died, and yet I'm still here. I haven't always been this way (obviously) but I'm starting to get used to it. Now, onto the important part; how did I turn? Well, I'm glad you asked! I've been waiting to get this off my chest, but had no luck until today.
I'm a scientist, well, was a scientist. I was working on a cure for cancer. Unfortunately, it didn't work like I would have hoped..
-flashback-
I'm sitting at my desk waiting for our volunteers; they had cancer, and I'm going to cure them. I've been working on this project for months, years even. I'm sure it'll work. I can almost see it 'miss bloom! Over here! A quick question, how did you do it? How did you solve the problem that had the greatest scientists baffled?' 'Miss bloom! A picture please? It's for the cover of our magazine!' 'Miss bloom!' 'Miss bloom!'
"Miss bloom?" I'm suddenly broken out of my thoughts, "Oh, sorry sir" I say, looking at the tall blonde man in front of me. That, lady's and gentlemen, is my boss. Jensen smith. Kind of a pretty boy if you ask me, always looks like he came out of a 14 year old girl's imagination. "Day dreaming again, are we?" He sighs, " your client is here." He says, gesturing to the scrawny looking guy at the door. "Perfect" I say to myself, "he'll be perfect."
I welcome the man, who I later learned was named David Baker, and brought him to the operation table situated in the room next to us where he happily took a seat. I started examining him, blood pressure, heart, lungs.. the usual. Everything was good, considering he has stage four cancer.
"Let's get started" I say to him in the calmest tone I could muster up. It was quite hard, considering I'm internally jumping with joy. Now, don't get me wrong; it's a shame he has cancer, but he's perfect for my little experiment. He looks to be in his mid 40s, seems to have a decent immune system, no extra weight what so ever, short and up to whatever I want to do. Perfect. I check his files and see the following information;BAKER DAVID
43, 4"10, 105lbs, blood a+,
live's in Washington DC , married, 4 kids,Wow, he came a long way to try this, Washington! That's far! For anyone wondering, we are currently in London.
He's the perfect subject! He's just the right size, meaning I won't need to augment the pre-determined dose and that will save us about 6 hours of work, minimum.I start to strap him to the operating table when he asks "u-um, miss bloom? Why do I need to be tied down?"
I lightly chuckle before answering, " so that in the improbable case of a seizure, you wouldn't get hurt." I smile in an attempt to reassure him. "Now, let's get started, shall we?"//3 hours after the serum was injected//
I still don't see any results, but that was to be expected. The results won't start to take place for, maximum, another four hours.
//9 hours after injection//
David fell asleep after getting his vitals checked, not to worry, I made sure it wasn't due to any side effects or reactions. As I had suspected, it was simply because he was tired. I'm suspecting a reaction to the antidote soon enough.
//17 hours after injection//
I'm suddenly woken up by a loud noise that I presume was the effect of a bedpan meeting the floor. 'I must have fallen asleep while watching him" I think to myself before standing up and dusting off my clothes in a comical manner and rubbing the sleep out of my eyes. I walk over to david to see something that I was honestly not expecting; he had turned transparent.
Not transparent as in the invisible woman from fantastic four but transparent like... water? Yeah, that's exactly how he looked like. It was as if water had somehow taken the form of a human! I slowly make my way over to him and try to check his vitals but my hand went straight through his neck. THROUGH HIS NECK.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry" 'why did I apologize? He probably isn't even alive! I've made this deduction from the fact he doesn't have a brain. Or so I think, and I should be right because I can literally see through his head!' I think, trying to reason with myself. By the time I get back to reality, he had already broken one of his...arms? Out of it's restraints. 'Shit shit shit shit' I think whilst frantically looking around for something that could help me. Fortunately for the plot, I find absolutely nothing. 'Where did all my stuff go?! ...oh right, I left it in my office. Fuck.' (This is where you find out why you shouldn't space out in situations like these.) I suddenly get reminded of the situation by a piercing pain coming from my chest. I look down to see that he had sliced my chest open with his now Solid hand; somehow, he had turned it into an ice pick that was surprisingly sharp. The pain making it's way trough more of my body the louder I yelled, I had never felt anything like it. My vision started to blur and soon afterwards, everything went dark.That was the end of the first chapter, I hope you liked it:) If you did, make sure to vote and comment! It would make my day xox I will try to have the second chapter out soon:)
