i had a wonderful talk with my favorite person tonight. it put me in a different frame of mind. so i wrote myself a letter, a la dear evan hansen. maybe i'll take my own advice.

dear syd
those people who you want to hang out with? there's nothing stopping you from doing so. there's nothing to lose.
those things you've always wanted to say? just say them.
stop worrying about lipstick on your teeth - it just means you've had reason to smile.
stop worrying about a little bit of belly pudge - it just means you are blessed to have a good meal, and you know how to enjoy it.
stop worrying about your makeup being messed up - it just means you've got things to do aside from "fixing up" your face.
stop worrying about the little stain on your teeth - hardly anyone notices it. and if they do, so what? it just means you've got an extra little dollop of paint on you.
you are a work of art. beautiful and flawed. because the two can go together. beautiful. flawed. coexisting.
live your life. laugh at stupid jokes with your friends at midnight. sing loudly and obnoxiously even when you aren't sounding good that day. say hi to people you don't know. compliment someone. get rid of that worry and just radiate positivity. it's not gonna be easy. but you've got some awesome positive influences around you. so shut out the negative ones. quit talking bad about people and start talking good about people. enjoy those little jokes. you won't remember them in ten years but you'll remember crying laughing at something. take pictures of your friends even if you aren't in them. you've got some beautiful friends. you're making memories. that doesn't mean that every moment you have to be doing something exciting. if you think that you'll wear yourself out. but the little things can be memories too. so let yourself have them.
sincerely, me
