Chapter 2

As I grew older, my herd gained trust in me and I became stronger. We still ran across the open valleys and watched out after one another. The years passed as I took care of the herd. All of the snow melted once more and the flowers bloomed. Fresh grass comes in every spring for me and the herd to eat. Some days are dangerous and some are safe. One day, to colts were playing in the field. They were small and young, therefore, helpless. A mountain lion or cougar of some sort, was sneaking up on the two colts. I spotted the creature just in time to save the colts. When creature leaped out to get them, I jumped in front of the colts and blocked the creature from killing them. For a while I wrestled the creature off of me. Finally I threatened to kick it in the stomach, I didn't though. I taught that creature a lesson, I don't think it will bother to come back...

Then again, months past and I protected my family, my herd. We were done eating at a spot in the field so, we ran back to our home in the valley. As we settled it was already dusk, everyone drifted off to sleep. Me and my mother stood on a small hill and looked at the stars. Ahead there was more of the valley, but then a forest. There was a strange light that was in the forest, I told my mother about it and showed her.

We had no idea what it was. I told her that I'm should go see what it is, it might be danger for the herd. First she declined and asked what would happen if I got hurt. I told her that it was my destiny, that the herd has to be protected. Finally she let me go, I made her promise to watch over everyone. She promised of course. We gave each other a nuzzle to say goodbye, and I quietly rode off toward the forest.
