It was a cold autumn night. Summer had just passed and the green leaves on the trees were turning orange again.
It was chilly outside, but Hayley didn't feel the coldness of the weather. She only felt hot tears streaming down her face while she cried her eyes out in her little sister's arms.
"It's gonna be okay Hayls, it had to happen at some point" Roanne whispered in her sister ear and rocked her back and forth soothingly. Her voice was calming like the wind, coming and going like a soft summer breeze.
Only it wasn't summer, and her sister's voice couldn't calm Hayley down.
She was a mess.
"He's dead, Roanne! Nothing is okay right now, I took a man's life. I took him away from his family, from this world" Hayley sobbed. The sixteen years old couldn't control her anger and killed him by accident. He was being rude to a girl and she couldn't take it. Why was Roanne being so calm about this?
"Yes, you did. And I'm not saying that it was right but you are cursed. You can't help it! Every wolf knows this. You have to kill someone to activate the moon curse" Roanne looked her big sis in the eyes. It was wrong, and terrible but she knew all too well that it would happen at some point. And apparently that point was now.
"It's easy for you to say that, you're not even a wolf. You won't have to turn every full moon to be the beast that everyone fears" Hayley got angry again and Roanne didn't like it one bit, but she understood her sisters anger.
Roanne didn't respond, she was too busy chanting to a bowl.
After a couple of seconds it was done and Roanne grabbed the bowl and took some muddy looking juice out of it and smeared it on the sides of Hayley's head.
"What are you doing?" She asked confused. She didn't understand witchcraft and she didn't want to.
Roanne sighed, Hayley was moving her head to much "It's to calm you nerves, now sit still so I can do this properly"
Roanne pressed her hands towards the sides of her sisters head again and started chanting.
After a short period of time Hayley felt herself relaxing.
"Thank you, you've been a great help" Hayley gave her little sister a hug. She was only fourteen, almost fifteen and already a great witch.
After a long time the sisters let go of each other. "You've gotta tell Nina" Roanne said, referring to their foster mother.
"I will"
"You've gotta be kidding me, you can't kick her out! She's innocent! I killed someone, I am the big, bad wolf, she's not" Hayley yelled at her foster parents.
They were kicking her out and she was trying to stop them from also kicking Roanne out.
"Why should I believe you?" Nina asked, narrowing her small green eyes.
"Because we probably don't have the same parents" Hayley cried out. How else could she be a wolf and her little sister a witch?
The long silence was nerve wrecking. Hayley just wanted to protect Roanne "She can stay" Nina finally said.
"But you need to go, tonight!"
Hayley swallowed her anger. As long as her sister was safe.
"Hey" Roanne knocked on Hayley's door. It was open, but she just wanted to let her know that she was also there. "How did it go?" She asked.
Hayley put on a fake smile, but Roanne could see right trough it.
"Come here" Hayley said and patted the spot beside her. She had to act up like the big sis now.
Roanne furrowed her thick eyebrows, "What happened?" Her voice was laced with curiosity and fear.
Hayley was ready to cry her eyes out, but she had to stay strong.
"Ro, you know that I would do anything to keep you safe and sound, right?" She asked and took her sister's hands in hers. Roanne nodded her head, waiting for her sister to get to the point.
Hayley closed her eyes, like it was gonna make it any easier. "They kicked me out, and they were gonna kick you out too but I convinced them that we aren't sisters and that you aren't like me"
Roanne swallowed the lump in her throat, "I'm coming with you. You aren't leaving me here and I am not letting you go through this alone" She decided.
"No, don't you get it? I can hurt you! You may have your powers but there is no stopping a wolf when you're not strong enough. I need you to stay here and live your life, I will find you when I have everything figured out" Hayley felt tears drying on her cheeks, she didn't even notice that she was crying.
"You're my sister Hayley, you can't just abandon me" Roanne cried out. It was breaking Hayley's heart to see her like this.
"I am protecting you"
