Young, seven year old Malcolm waited for his best friend at the door of his apartment building. Spencer's dad and uncle were finally letting them spend a holiday together. Dr. Gee had been reluctant to the idea, but Mr. Franky finally convinced him. This was going to be the best Christmas ever.
"Mal, he'll get here when he gets here. Waiting by the door in the freezing cold isn't going to help anyone, here." Gerard called from inside. It was even cold for him, and he was a demon. He couldn't imagine how cold his adoptive son, Malcolm, would be.
"No, Dr. Gee, you don't understand. I told him I'd meet him right here!" Mal replied as he plopped down and tried not to shiver, which was inevitable.
"Fine. At least put this on." Gerard called as he snapped up a warm blanket and draped it around his shoulders. "Mind if I wait with you?"
Malcolm nodded and wrapped the blanket around himself appreciatively. He had no idea of the dangers of a child sitting alone in Brooklyn, New York. He was only worried about his best friend and his arrival.
After about another fifteen minutes of waiting, Spencer hopped up to the stoop with his floppy hair and a wide smile.
"Happy Christmas!" His coat was tattered, his nose was rosy red and his left sneaker had a hole in the toe. Gerard frowned. Even though Spencer was not his own, he still was family, thanks to Malcolm. Nonetheless, Gerard stood, and led them inside as Malcolm shared his blanket with Spencer.
When they got up-stairs, Frank had already set out the gifts and cookies. Although he'd never admit it, he truly was the mother of he and Gerard's relationship. They'd had Malcolm for almost two years now, after Gerard's friend Scott had told him about his nephew going up for adoption. Scott, himself could not take care of the child, he was struggling to even take care of himself. After consideration with his partner, Gerard took up the child and now treated him as his own blood, whether he was or not.
The presents were all opened, the boys playing with their new toys with many giggles. Gerard and Frank watched with a smile, pecked each other on the lips and went back to watching. Malcolm saw this and smiled.
"Hey! My dads do that all the time, because they love each other, yknow." Malcolm said to Spencer.
"Really? My dad and my uncle never do that." he responded.
"Well thats probably because they're brothers. Anyways, wanna try it?"
Spencer shrugged with a smile. "Sure!"
They giggled, and tried it for less than half a second before backing away and wiping their mouths, then shouted at the same time.
"EWWW! COOTIIIIIIIIES!" but they were giggling.
Gerard and Frank looked at each other and couldn't help but laugh.
It truly was the best Christmas ever.
