‘Ok. I can do this. This is going to happen.’ I told myself in the lady’s bathroom. I was finally on a date ever since my boyfriend of 2 years died on a car accident. I had been telling myself all week that I would not ruin this date.
I took a breath and walked back out to our table. There Cheondong smiled at me when he saw me.
“Are you okay?” he asked sweetly.
“Yeah I’m fine. Just a little nervous.” I lied.
“That’s okay. To be honest with you I am terrified right now.” He said shyly.
I looked at him in surprise. “Really? You always seem so confident when you are on stage or on TV.”
He smiled. “Well, I try. But I have never been on a date before.”
“So why me?”
“Because you are stunning.” He said.
“Well I haven’t been on a date for a while either.” I blurted out.
“Oh? Why is that?” Cheondong asked. He seemed genuinely curious.
“Uh…my boyfriend. Died.” I said in a small voice.
“Oh. I am so sorry. I shouldn’t have asked.” He said embarrassed.
“No it is fine. You had no idea.” I said.
We sat there in a silence for a second then he spoke. “Ok, so obviously we aren’t comfortable with dates. So instead of sitting here and eating and making small talk, how about we get out of here and do something that we actually want to do.”
I smiled. “That would be amazing.” We stood up and walked out of the restaurant and walked on the streets of Seoul.
“Where are we even going?” I questioned.
“Does it matter?” he asked.
“Yes it does.” I said.
“Well I am going to show you my favorite place in the world and you will show me yours. That’s how we are going to get to know each other.” He said as he smirked.
“And where is your favorite place in the world?” I asked.
“It’s a surprise.”
We walked for a few more blocks and Cheondong led me into a studio. In the studio there was a beautiful piano. We walked over to the piano and sat on the bench. He started to play a beautiful song and eventually started to sing. I just sat on the bench and listened.
It only felt like we were sitting there for a second but when I finally looked at my watch, we had been sitting there for hours.
I looked at Cheondong. He looked completely exhausted.
“Oh no! Are you okay?” I said concerned.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry. But I think we are done with piano for now.” He said and we both laughed.
“My turn.” I said as I lead him to a marina that I had a boat at. I hopped in the boat and he looked at me in surprise.
“You have a boat?” He said in amazement.
“Yeah.” I said a bit too smugly.
“Wow. That’s amazing.”
“Well come on. You need to help me prepare.” I said.
He helped me and we went out into the water. We rode the waters for 30 minutes and I stopped the boat.
“So what now?” He asked.
“We swim, fish or just relax.” I said.
“I like the swimming part.” He said right away.
I laughed and was about to jump into the water when he beat me to it. We were in the water fully clothed and laughing for what seemed like hours. After we got back into the boat. We caught our breath for a second and I could hear him say something.
I looked over to him. “What did you say?” I asked.
“This is it.”
“What do you mean?”
“The moment I want to be in forever.” He said plain as day.
