I woke up early and started a fire. I let Goose off his lead so that he could graze. As I started to cook the eggs and pancakes, I heard Ami rustle around and wake up. She walks over to where I’m kneeling and puts her arms around me. I feel my body tingle as the warmth of her body engulfs me.
“What’s for breakfast?”
“Some eggs and homemade pancakes, just the way you like them.”
“Aw you’re such a sweet girlfriend.”
“I try, but only for you.”
We finished eating and sat next to the fire, watching the flames as she cuddled into me. The soothing feeling nearly put me to sleep. Goose snuck up behind us and nudged me in the back. Startled, we sprung to our feet to see a mouthful of grass in our faces.
“No thank you Goose, you can have it.”
He hung his head and walked over to the stream, taking a long swig.
“Well then, what’s the plan for today love?”
“I was thinking about taking you to the waterfall, maybe we could climb up to the top and have our picnic up there.”
“Wow that sounds amazing babe.”
“I know.”
I walk over to the bed and start folding the blankets. Then I walked back to the fire where Ami caught my gaze. She stood up and wrapped her arms around me. I held her there, taking her heat as mine. I didn’t want to let go, and I could tell she didn’t want to either. The sun was just over the mountaintop, setting the sky around us at an orange-red color. Birds were singing and crickets chirping to the morning dew. The world around us was celebrating the beautiful night we just had. I was caught in a trance, I felt like I was in heaven, until a sweet voice broke the silence.
“I love standing here in your arms, embracing your warmth and comfort.”
“I was thinking just the same thing, I feel like I could hold you forever as time and space freezes. You make the world completely disappear.
We stood there, knowing that each of us were speechless. A cold breeze went by, and I could feel her shiver and tighten her grip. I pull away slowly, trying not to ruin the moment. Cautiously, slowly I lean in and softly kiss her cheek.
“Shall we head out now?”
“I… Um… Yeah…”
I saddle up Goose and we head on our journey to the waterfall. The sights around us made the long journey worthwhile. Every now and then I would hear a gasp come from behind me, or feel her poke my shoulder and point at something off to the side. An hour had gone by in almost complete silence. Today will be an amazing day. The weather will be perfect and she will be awed.
“How much longer until we get there? The back of the saddle is hurting my butt.”
“Not too much farther.”
“Thank God.”
We sit in silence for another half hour until we finally hit our stopping point. The waterfall wasn’t quite in sight, but you could hear it through the trees and brush.
