New York wasn't what Rayna expected ti to be, but then again what did she expect from a place she never imagined she would be.

The city was busy, loud, and bright, with so many people Rayna never felt more alive. She was surrounded by people in this city, they stood close to her and did not run when she was nearby, some even smiled at her and asked her about her day.

What an amazing city, Rayna thought to herself.

"I can't believe I'm here," she said out loud.

"I know right, it's beautiful out here," said a young male. Rayna looked him up and down, she didn't sense he was a threat but nonetheless, she had to be careful so she took a step back.

"I'm Scotty by the way, and I don't mean to bother you or anything, wouldn't want your mate to come after me," he said smiling at her, hoping that if he appeared harmless she wouldn't think of him as a threat. Scotty couldn't afford to have problems with a human who was mated to an Alpha, he could smell the alpha wolf on her and since it wasn't embedded in her skin, he knew she was a human.

"How do you know about mates," Rayna asked him suspiciously and ready to run if this guy turned out to be somebody Robbin sent to drag her back to the pack.

"I'm a wolf just like your mate, I'm not a rogue or somebody who will hurt you, " Scotty tried again to let her know he was harmless. If he got in trouble then his brother would have to get involved and right now that was the worst thing he could do was get his big brother involved.

Rayna took a whiff and confirmed that Scotty was indeed a wolf and the wolf sense she still carried made he feel as if he was telling the truth.

Still keeping an eye on him, she decided to entertain this wolf and learned what she could from him.

"By the way is your pack near here?" Scotty asked her

"No, but why are you asking?"Rayna questioned him

"I haven't run into a lot of other wolf's in New York unless they are on vacation, so to see an Alpha's mate out her I thought maybe there was a pack nearby," he told her sincerely.

"Oh, why do you keep saying I have an Alpha mate?" Rayna asked him, this is the fourth or fifth time he mentioned her having an alpha mate and the truth was far from that.

"I can smell the wolf scent on you, it's light but covers your skin kinda like you sprayed perfume on," he told her.

Rayna didn't realize that she still carried the wolf scent on her, she always figured out that since her wolf was dead that she smelled 100% human.

"I didn't know," she said quietly

"yup, it's a good thing though because other wolfs won't bother you out of fear of your mate," Scotty told her.

Rayna was originally going to tell him that she did not have an Alpha mate but after hearing that just the assumption of having an alpha mate was keeping her safe, she decided not to say anything.

She didn't know Scotty well enough to tell him the truth, he could turn on her and attack her. A male wolf was stronger, especially since she had no way to protect herself.

"What are you doing in New York?" she asked him

Scotty couldn't keep his eyes off the green eye beauty that sat next to him staring at the Hudson River, he didn't know her name but she was breathtakingly beautiful.

You're staring, he thought to himself.

Could he tell her the truth, a part of him wanted to spill his guts and tell her everything, seek comfort in her arms but he didn't even know her name and plus she had a mate?

He shook those thoughts out his head and smiled at the green eye beauty "probably the same thing you are".

"I see" her voice like honey caressed his soul and made his heart race.

I have a mate out there and she's taken, he repeated in his mind until he calmed his racing heart.

After that nothing was spoken between the two of them, Scotty decided to wait with her for whatever or whoever she was waiting for. Sneaking glances at her every now and then, he wanted to touch her hair and make her look at him but more than anything he wanted to see her smile. If her voice made his heart raced he could imagine what her smile would do to him; "make you fall in love" he found himself saying out loud instead of in his mind.

"huh," Rayna asked him, confused as to why he was still with her and randomly making statements like that.

"My bad, I said that out loud, just thinking too much," Scotty told her

"Are you looking for your mate?" she asked, assuming that's why he was thinking about making someone fall in love.

"Ya that's part of the reason," he told her

"Well I wish you luck in finding her, you seem like a great guy so she'll be a lucky girl to have you. I have to go but it was great talking to you, Scotty."

"Wait can I walk you to where you have to go," he asked her not liking the thought of her walking around New York alone.

"It's ok my ride is here," she said pointing to the black car that was waiting on the side.

Scotty nodded and smiled at her, he couldn't let her leave like this for some reason he wanted to stay connected to her.

"Here's my number, if you ever need anything call me," he said handing her, his business card after scribbling his personal cell phone number on the back.

Rayna took the card without reading it, "I'm Rayna by the way" she said and shook his hand. She didn't consider Scotty a friend, but this was the second time she had a real conversation with another person and it made her happy.
